NCRC or Little Folks?

NCRC will always have stronger results, and unconscious biased towards BVR and Maret because of the HoS’s own personal history at both schools. Other schools where he has less of a connection are hit or miss in terms of acceptances, and that will be explained away as a school being too woke or too cold.

We went to a cute no name preschool. No parents talked about outplacement or anything of the sort. It was sweet. Parents were nice and low key.
We did great in big 3 admissions. No one else from our preschool applied. Had our pick of options.
Wouldn’t change a thing.

Your kids are going to be so messed up if you are even considering outplacement from a patient. These are children. Your focus should be their development and happiness. Not what’s next. That’s how you raise anxious kids.

Same here- only ones from the class who applied. I think it helped a lot.

I respectfully disagree. I think you can focus on childrens' development and happiness and still be knowledgeable as a parent to outplacement options. It's about educating yourself and learning about options that may be the best fit for your child. Most children are sheltered from the process so I don't understand what the issue is. If the parents are calm, I don't see this as a negative. The above comment seems poorly thought out imho.

I have met lots of parents who kick off this process at age 2 - determining their feeder nursery school and focusing on which big three they want from there - calm isn’t the word that typically comes to mind when I think of them. And best fit for your child- most preschools around here are pretty warm and nice - not really an issue of ‘fit’ at that point. Go to pre school that’s closest and easiest. Whether they are in the bear class a frog class or rabbit class, they’ll be fine. Still found it easier and less stressful to apply to selective privates from our local church based preschool that no one has ever heard of.

I’m from NYC and there the feeder preschools are definitely a thing, not so much here. I started planning early and we selected our daycare and preschool precisely to avoid competition at the “feeders.” It was a great strategy, in everywhere for pre-K and enrolled in our first choice. We love our daycare and preschool so it wasn’t a sacrifice and we have found a benefit in outplacement, especially since we are very unhooked. If I had my kids in NYC I would have made a totally different choice.

I heard LF is more for families interested in Yale and NCRC is more linked to Harvard. What’s impt is to figure out what vibe you are into there and which you think is the better fit for your kid and work backwards.

You don’t get it because you’re part of a group that is mostly focused on status and prestige. You can’t even fathom that parents don’t even consider outplacement in a preschool. Nor are they always thinking about the next step in life. They try to live in the present and raise happy kids. Your type of parenting prioritizes status and achievements over happiness and raising a grounded kid. Seriously you don’t get it.

Not defending either parenting style but it is possible to parent with a mixture of both. We chose St. Columba's because of the proximity to our house, the incredible playgrounds with chickens, and the wonderful teachers and head. We were very lucky to live so close to that school. I was curious about outplacement, ie pk since I knew it was unlikely that we would do DCPS. I looked at a few of the more "prestigious" preschools and it didn't feel like a family fit. My kids ended up getting accepted to every private to which they applied for pk. Lot's of kids, with whom my kids are still friends, went to Janney. In retrospect I really overthought nursery school for my first and lucked out that one of the best one's was in our neighborhood. Good luck op, it's been said many times, but you can't go wrong with your options.

I would be more specific and say, Which Eating Club at Harvard and which House for Yale? It doesn't help to be vague in these matters.

Urg, I mean Finals Club! Honestly, you'd think I only have an advanced degree from one of these schools.

You clearly went to LF. At NCRC they really drill in the whole finals clubs vs eating clubs thing early. No rookie mistakes there.
