FCGB doesn’t have the typical big/fast players that larger clubs in MoCo such as BSC. The BSC 2009 team has about 3 incredibly big players that looks like 14 year olds. They are a very technical team though as the coaches spend a tremendous amount of time teaching individual skills.
FCGB is not cheap compared to other MoCo clubs. They also require 1 mandatory summer camp that is not included in the team fee. Like any clubs/teams in the DMV, there players that either fit in the system or don’t. But just because you DC doesn’t fit in the system doesn’t mean the club sucks. IMHO, the time that a club sucks is if they constantly play “kick & run” and/or coaches or players are toxic. |
“They” is FCGB not BSC. |
| FCGB is a step belown ECNL teams. They are very solid in terms of coaching and EDP 1 level at least for the 06 and 07. Parent having a tempertantrum on thread basically. |
| Be honest and say two steps below for older teams. I think the oldest team is struggling in EDP Premier I and probably should be in a lower division and your U17 is doing well in EDP Premier III. If the 03/04 team beats OPSA in State Cup, the coaches should celebrate because that is a serious club. |
| I mean what is two steps? It is a new and growing club. Over the middle and low hs ages they are generally edp 1 level. pipeline is in ecnl and are terrible. So FCGB are at the regional ecnl level and across the ages generally win when pitted against regional or ecnl2 level teams. Put ga ahead maybe but in Montgomery cty they are a solid 2nd option behind bethesda top teams. Certainly stronger than potomac. I guess rush has a couple decent teams? |
I agree that FCGB teams are not ECNL 1 level right now. But they are probably a step below. While it looks like U18 is struggling in Premier 1, the division has 6 teams. The top two are clearly a step above and would be solid ECNL 1 teams if those clubs were ECNL clubs. OPSA is next tier, even they got beat by one of the top two teams 1-9. Then you have the other three teams, MRM Rush and PSA Elite. FCGB tied one of them once and lost once 1-2 (questionable handball call). So, I'd say they belong in Premier 1. If the division were larger, like the U17 division, you'd see that they would be in the top third of Premier 1. They won their division of the Bethesda Premier Cup where they tied Frederick, another solid team. The U17 team is largely a U16 team other than a few girls who are U17. Still, they tied BSC ECNL 2 U17 team when they played them. For people who say that athleticism isn't a factor, it's not just speed and size (while they play a part) if they train them properly. It's also natural intensity. As a small and new club, they don't get a chance to pick and choose at tryout time. Yet, they are able to field competitive teams from whoever shows up. The coaches have to be doing something right to make that happen. Can't speak on what's happening at the club itself in terms of anything else since my daughter isn't at the club, but seriously considering it so I've been looking at their results closely. It's unfortunate that a couple of unhappy parents would go out of their way to undermine this growing club by posting on this site. I've spoken to many current families and their experiences have been overwhelmingly positive and speak of a very unique environment. I would suggest everyone go take a look for themselves and not be swayed by disgruntled parents. ALL clubs have a few of those. |
Agreed. If you are in Montgomery County and ECNL 1 at BSC is not a good fit, FCGB should be a serious option after that. Sure, some go to McLean or Maryland United. But some people doing want to commute an hour for practice every day. |
| I give credit to FCGB for maintaining training across the club but one team does not a elite club make. MSI Academy has a good girls team at the 05 level but the rest is blah at best. The reality is that there are no great options in MoCo. |
Can't compare MSI Academy and FCGB. MSI does not have a consistent club wide philosophy (no other club besides FCGB and OPSA and maybe WCP in this area does). FCGB is fighting an uphill battle with a MoCo culture that feels that wins at (especially U14 and down) are the only measure of success. It's hard to compete for players from the big clubs like BSC or McLean. |

But some people doing want to commute an hour for practice every day. I think this is about right. NOVA is awash in clubs; MC is not. FCGB have solid teams across most age groups where they play and seem to have surpassed the other long term clubs in the County on a general basis (Potomac, MSI, Olney) Are they going to overtake BSC tomorrow? Probably not but I d go there rather than a 2nd or 3rd Bethesda team in a heartbeat. Do agree there are also one offs in the County like the MSI team mentioned or a couple Rush teams. As far as a club goes though I think FCGB probably has them beat |
| I can’t speak to other teams/years, and we have only been at FCGB for a short time, but I know all the other clubs and other coaches, and other programs, up and down. FCGB has a great philosophy, the coaches care and treat kids great, they work on developing, not winning, and most importantly my daughter loves it. She’s the one doing all the work, and she knows quite a lot for a teen player and fan. She had no interest in looking elsewhere for tryouts abd didn’t even bring it up. She’s excited to practice, to play, has grown in all aspects since she arrived and while she could go anywhere else, doesn’t want to. That’s good enough for me. Hope that helps. |

The 06s are not successful any longer. -------------------- Hmmmm. Time will tell. Development takes time and a lot of TLC which is what the girls will get. Please stop your hate. Negativity is the worst thing for your sweet and bright soccer player. |

Team's done ok.
Probably could have fared better without all YOUR drama. [url]http://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=83118&Gender=Girls&Age=15 --------------------------------------------- And no, they haven’t been able to compete with ecnl teams and they’re barely beating their edp opponents. |
| It’s not drama. Only stating the truth- when you have already lost a few players the last few months and 6 plus players are guesting for other Clubs and trying out for all of the other ecnl clubs around them, there’s an issue with the tram dynamic wouldn’t you say? |

It's drama. A couple toxic parenta and parents wanting to check out ECNL. It's awful to see how COVID has brought the anxiety out in all of us. But, your 15 minutes of attention (by trash talking the club)are almost up. Good luck and MOVE ON buddy. ----------- Post 05/19/2021 10:30 Subject: FCGB? It’s not drama.
