Did your girl grow more (in height) after she got her period?

I'm sorry, but this made me laugh. And it's true. 5'2" is short. I'm 5'3" which is short too.

Also curious about this question, OP. My daughter is 11.5 and is starting to show signs of puberty, but is only 4'8". People routinely think she's a 3rd grader even though she's in 6th. She was adopted and while her birth mom is probably average height for her (non-white) race, her birth dad is short at 5'6".

This was in reference to the "what's wrong with short?" comment. Of course all human variation in height is ok. But let's get real. The average American woman is 5'4. Being a couple inches off that really isn't a big deal, especially if the women in your family tend to be around the same size. In our case, our daughter is likely not to hit 5' in a family whose women average over 5'4. So yeah, for us, it does create a bit of a concern, the main one being is this a generic variant or is she not getting the proper nutrients she needs or is puberty being delayed etc.

There's short - and then there's the kind of short where you may want to use a booster to drive.

I'm 4'11" and have never needed a booster for driving.

This obviously depends on whether you carry your height in your legs or torso. My MIL is 4'11" and she does need a booster for driving. Doesn't use one, though, but needs it.

Maybe your head is unusually big?!

I’m fine with being short too (5’1”). Aside from not being able to over tall heads, I don’t mind. But my DD is short and she feels differently. She desperately wants to be tall. Kids assume there is some value in being tall, which there isn’t but it’s hard to see that when you’re in middle school!

I don't worry about my MS DD height, esp. since I'm 5' and fine. But for her sports, she wants to be 5'4- as height does help in a lot of sports.

My DD is 12 and still no signs of puberty, but I didn't get mine until I was 16 (and 5'6 at the time). I grew to 5'9, the last inch was freshman year in college. DD is only about 4'10 now, so super small, but I was probably the same height at that age.

? that is not super small for that age. I see "super small" as <10%ile. 4'10 at 12 yrs is about 25%ile.

I'm the PP and you are right, thanks for putting that in perspective. She also has only lost about 10 baby teeth, so that probably makes her seem "small" to me. I was late with that too, losing my last baby tooth in 9th grade (just late with everything I guess!).

Wow that's tall for 12! Are you and your spouse tall?

I'm 5'8" but was fully grown by 13. I don't think that's normal.

I was tall until I got my period. Then everyone else kept growing and I stopped and now I’m average height.

My DD age 12 got her period at 11.5 and grew 6 inches since. She’s 5’6” and seems like she’s eating us out of house and home. I don’t think she’s done growing yet. I was 14 when I got my period and was already my full height at 5’8”. I think DD will likely be about as tall as I am if not possibly more. I have tall genes on my side. Half of my cousins are 5’10” or more. Female and male. I am considered the short one.
