School Within School (SWS) worth a year in a swing space?

Anonymous
Yes, see the myschooldc FAQs

Can I edit my application or change the order of my schools?
Yes, you can edit your application any time before the deadline without penalty. This includes adding schools, deleting schools, or changing your school rankings. After editing, you must re-submit the application before the deadline to ensure your application is considered in the lottery.

Note: All lottery applicants are able to change the order of their schools if they so choose until March 15. They can do so by logging into their family account. Applicants will NOT, however, be able to adjust any other information on their application, including adding or deleting schools.

We are new to SWS this year and love it (ECE and early elementary grades). We came to it from another well-regarded Capitol Hill school.
Swing space was just announced as new modular buildings at Spingarn 704 26th St NE (right next to Two Rivers Young) with buses available from the current site. School will be located there from Jan 2021-June 2022.
We are planning to stay with SWS throughout this process. We really like the teachers, admin, school community, and the learning environment/arts focused education which comes out even in the upper grades.

a space the students attend while the usual building is being renovated.

Nah bro. I commented on dealing with construction and its ill-effects, and invited parents to consider whether that’s something they’d want to put their children through, citing Maury as an example. If you need help with reading comprehension, perhaps your preschooler can help.

And the PP had a legit question about a term being used in the thread. Your point?

Oh, excuse me, I quoted the wrong reply. Fixed it. Thanks for following along!

Building debris and dust are not safe or healthy (as we learned the hard way--think stinging throats and burning eyes). Kids at Maury Village suffered a similar problem when they had the (benefit? Hah!) of going to school for two years in trailers next to an ongoing construction project: https://wjla.com/features/7-on-your-side/children-sickened-at-dc-school-environmental-contiminants. Would you want to work next to an active construction site? (Be honest. You wouldn't.) So why is it okay to ask the same of young children?

Yeah, you're one of the 3 parents who overly freaked out over that. It was inconvenient and didn't seem totally thought out, but really NBD and passed like a flash. Now we have a perfect brand-new school. But hey, I'm sure that there will be many, many parents willing to take SWS spots from families that can't deal with trailers and trucks for 2 years.

Not, actually. We had no horse in that race. Glad your kid enjoyed that shit show though.

So you didn't even have a kid at Maury Village and yet you're here opining on it? Gotcha.

Does anyone know if there will be before-care at the SWS swing space, and if yes, would there be buses from Goding earlier in the AM? What time? We occasionally need to be able to drop off as early as 7 or 7:15 AM.

There’s a modernization meeting on 2/26. Hopefully such questions will be answered then.

Hi all. Quick question about location here.

My understanding is:

-Current location is 920 F St. NE
-Next year (2020-2021) will start the year there, then Jan-Jun in trailers at Spingarn Upper Field at 704 26th St NE
-2021-2022 school year will be where?

2021-2022 will be in the trailers at Spingarn. Return to SWS campus following year

Does anyone have insight into what it will be like in the trailer space? Are they pretty close to a typical classroom? How are things like specials handled, etc? PE? Lunch?

Curious to know others' thoughts on whether trailers at SWS will pose additional problems in light of the pandemic. Assuming the classroom spaces are smaller than typical, are families concerned about the potentially increased risk of spread of the virus? (I mean, this virus is highly contagious anyway, so maybe smaller classroom spaces won't make a significant difference in keeping kids from spreading the virus.) Interested to know if others have considered this issue?

I confess I haven’t given it much thought, but FYI that the move doesn’t happen til January.
