[headdesk]

It won't help if the phone is stolen.

I read he had accomplices? Can a solo 13 yo really stab a sporty girl to death by himself in a park? She was jogging, right?

+1. Very pretty. It's really depressing to read locals know to avoid it FOR DECADES?! This isn't timbuktu, it's across the street from two of the most prestigious colleges in the world.

They are looking for 2 other suspects.

Omg just read the CNN link. She was only found because she stumbled up the top of the stairs, which are pretty much on campus at that point. omg

As the parent of a 20-year-old DD in Manhattan, I cannot get this out of my mind. She is street smart, but still...
And a 13-year-old angry/hardened enough to mug and murder (assuming the boy arrested is the perpetrator)--that's crushing, terrifying, and hard to process.

Can I just say the fact that they arrested a CHILD for doing this just makes everything all the more tragic. Obviously I know a 13 year-old can be hardened and vicious, but to be brought up to believe that robbing and then striking out with a knife when it doesn’t go according to plan is even an option is horrific to me. Think of the 13 year olds you know, in your children’s schools. What would they have to go through to become that person? And to be the girl who was stabbed...ack it’s just so upsetting all around.

Before I get flamed I am not excusing the actions of the attacker. It’s just sad that a child was even in a situation that desperate in the first place.

How can this little monster be so amoral and violent at that young age?

I agree with you. It is a tragedy on both sides. We might both get flamed for this. But for a 13 year old to rob and stab someone means that that child was failed along the line.

Morningside Park is not part of the Columbia campus. The Columbia campus has plenty of security and is very safe, as are the blocks going westward towards the Hudson.

Come on, don't get hysterical. Yes, crime is disturbing. But it's also very easy to avoid. And no, just because it's a "prestigious university" does not mean its immune from crime. NYC is actually very safe, much safer than it was in the past. This is a horrible tragedy, but NYC is not a war zone.

Both sides, huh? You’re an imbecile.
