I had met a friend of a friend at a party. Then I happened to meet the same friend of a friend a few weeks later at another party. We were chatting, and she mentioned that after that party where we had first met, she had gone home and told her DH that she had met the nicest person she had ever known (me)! I was very flattered. |
From Dh after he proposed 6 years ago- "you're mine mine mine!" (dated older- had dated a lot)
From my current boss when he offered me a f-t job- "you help me run this company- I need you" From DC- "you're my best friend" (age 4) When younger (20s) - walking in NYC and a street guy whistling and telling my then boyfriend (loudly) how lucky he was and I was beautiful- Being carded at age 38 with a friend who was 30 (at costco) and the person insisting on my ID only= not my friends.. |
"I NEVER would have guessed you're from south Jersey. You don't have the accent at all."
I loathe that accent - this comment made me so happy! |
Just last night, I put on a nice dress to wear to the Christmas Eve church service. My 2.5 year old came up to me and said "That's a nice shirt. I like that shirt, mommy!" I asked my husband if he told him to say that, and he swears it was spontaneous. I think it meant so much to me because it was the first true heartfelt compliment from my son. |
This thread deserves to be bumped . . . |
When Dh and I were engaged I was having a rough time adjusting to DC. Everyone just seemed so fit, and good looking, I felt insecure. He told me " I had to have you when I met you. You're smart, one of the funniest people I know, your beautiful, you take care of yourself, and I could wake up to your smile everyday, for the rest of my life" |
From a former boyfriend:
"Your tits are fantastic!" (along with other exhortations about my girls) From my teaching mentor: "You're a wonderful consensus maker!" |
And DH hasn't noticed your girls in this way? Shame on him. |
The first time I went to a meeting of our homeowner's association, an older lady came up to me afterward and said, "I know who you are! You have a little baby boy, right?" When I responded yes, she told me that she had seen DS and I several times at our neighborhood grocery store, and she loved to watch us interact because the way we smiled and laughed at each other was angelic. I'll probably never hear another compliment again that means as much to me as that one. |
DH is my ex now but is a "breast man" too. Less vocal in his appreciation (part of the reason he's gone).
Maybe I should track down my old BF (although the girls are swinging low nowadays). |
"You're so cerebral" -- guy at a party "You're very very pretty, but you're not drop dead gorgeous" -- from a friend with a filter problem. funny! "You're a fine looking white woman" -- from a guy on the street near Dupont Circle "You're as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside" -- from a female colleague "You're beautiful" from a Sport's Illustrated model while I was taking her deposition (maam, can I get that on the record?) but the best: "you're just like your Dad" from a dear old family friend six months after my father died. |
"Wow, this is the best artichoke dip I've had in two years" (from a neighbor tasting a potluck dish I had made for a Silpada party). |
One just happend the other day at the pool. As I was playing iin the pool w/my son (5.5 years) and a few other kids around the same age and 1 or 2 a few years older. One older boy, probably 9 who was also playing with us, said, "you know your really a nice a good Dad."
Really made my day! :0) |
"If I hadn't known you, I would never have gone to college." From a friend who not only got a college degree, but a master's as well. I'm so glad I made a difference in someone's life. |
And I want to cry. ![]() |
