"You don't sweat much for a fat lass." |
You have such a beautiful smile that you should be a model (said by an 8 year old girl I had in my group in summer camp, and trust me, I look NOTHING like a model). |
"You have lovely boys"
It was an outright lie, as it was our first night in Ireland and we were at a pub having dinner. And my boys we doing their level best to hold it together with the jet lag, etc. but were failing miserably. I kept looking around the pub wondering when they were going to throw us out,... I thought for sure they would after my three year old fell off the bench onto his head and wailed like a banshee. And all this time, I'm jealously watching this beautiful Irish family with three picture-perfect girls having a peaceful dinner. As I scooped up the boys to flee the pub, their mother said "you have lovely boys" to me, and I could have kissed her. It was said without a shred of sarcasm, and with a knowing smile that said "I've been there... they're good kids, you're a good mom, you just had a bad night...". |
this cracks me up. |
"Have you lost weight?" |
Anytime my students tell me that I am a really good teacher. One student said to me that the dept would fall apart without me, which is not at all true, but the fact that she thought so highly of me really made my day. |
25 years ago in college, all the black organizations (frats, civil rights groups, anti-apartheid group, etc) staged sit-ins throughout classrooms, faculty office buildings, the student newspaper offices, the student government offices and any other place they could think of to protest a newly announced policy that was going to disproportionately affect them. After days of effectively shutting down campus life, the college president asked the leader of the sit-in protest how they could resolve the situation. The leader said that they wanted me, a fellow student who was white and held a high rank in the student government, to come up with a solution because he and others in their sit-in leadership thought I was "a fair person." I was stunned and boy did it have an effect on me. Fairness and equity became cornerstones of my professional life and as well as the way I mother my twins. |
Now that is cool. |
I agree. A really nice counterpoint to some of the other compliments which were focused primarily on looks/appearance. |
That I, ahem, "taste good." |
Boy, PP, you make me long for the merely vain and shallow compliments. I think the greatest compliment I received came from several guys who said they wanted their daughters to be just like me. Another favorite was when we had a Christmas party and a little girl who came said "WOW. Your house is so clean it looks like a hotel."
In the looks department it would have to be the guy who said "You look so good I oughta shoot you and throw you in the trunk of my car." |
I love getting carded when I buy alcohol. |
My son's therapist told me what an awesome mom I am. She is amazed by my patience and ability to not let him see how I am grieving for the loss of the child he once was. |
I want to hug you after that post. |
I could use a hug. Thanks. |
