Ratcliffe?! Who says, the excuse is that maybe the Ukrainians didn't know there was quid pro quo? Hence, there was not "evidence" that Zelensky knew Trump was doing quid pro quo, so it is then not quid pro quo even if all the Trump and all the Trumps's men did it exactly for quod pro quo? He probably suspected, since the previous ambassador was ousted unexpectedly, and he did speak with her before taking the job. I don’t think anyone could foresee the level of corruptness. He did say a few times in his statement that he was prepared to resign if US policy on Ukraine changed. He had integrity. He became more and more suspicious as time went on and started to document so that there was a paper trail. He made objections along the way when it became clearer what was happening. I am sure he couldn’t believe it at first. Who could imagine the government sinking so low?
You should read his opening statement. It reads as someone with integrity.

There are a lot of career civil servants who have resigned their positions over the last couple of years because they didn’t want to be part of this administration. They did what was right and all deserve our respect.

Yet those people were not there to collect evidence (intentionally or not), and don’t have the opportunity to testify to Congress.

Probably for some other topic, but how will Fox News age after *all this*? I know they're planning for a post-trump future, but that's not apparent from their homepage lately. I struggle to see how they will ever gain any sort of credibility, and my hope is that the upcoming generations aren't filling with enough hate to sit through opinion after opinion.

His opening statement is extremely compelling and constitutes a nearly day by day account of the quid pro quo.

While I agree with you I still question his integrity. So, if the whistle blower hadn’t come forward he (and others) would have just taken this crap to the grave? BS. He is a career professional trying to do his job and uphold the Constitution. What many of the officials who have come forward to testify to is that for the first time in their long careers it was hard to follow orders and uphold the Constitution. This is a new experience for people like Taylor and it takes time to figure out how to navigate that. It is unfortunate that they are being placed in such tough situations

Yep. Volker was going along with what he was directed to do, because his job is to carry out the directives of his boss -- which up until recently were in line with the good of the country and the Constitution.

Taylor pushed back but still went along, because that was his job. Now he's testifying to everything that happened, because that is also his job.
