Do you prefer to jail criminals here illegally or deport them to avoid the cost? If the crime is here and the victim is here, is it a travesty of justice to not jail them?

I wonder.

Jail, full sentence, no parole, followed by immediate deportation upon completion of sentence.

Send them back as old men, too feeble for another trip across the desert.

You will need to change our legal system because rape convictions don't amount to a 60 year sentence. Heck. if you're white, it barely amounts to a few months sentence.

Or rich and Jewish and Liberal - a la Jeff Epstein. For how many years did he get away operating his sex trafficking ring of high school girls? And then you have Harvey...

If you are conservative you become president or a politician in the south like Roy Moore.

This. This is what I want as a MoCo resident.
Not handing them over to ICE and having them back over the border raping in six months or less.

MoCo honors an ICE detainer request for as little at 1 hour, then cuts them loose. They also don't allow ICE into the secure portion of the jail to pick them up. (So they pick them up in the general public area of the jail = more risky for multiple sides.)

Frederick County honors ICE detainer requests for 24 hours, and does allow secure area access. Is that too much to ask that MoCo do the same?

Except that Frederick County has a higher crime rate currently than MoCo so whatever they are doing doesn't seem to be helping.

What exactly do you think these rapist will do once MoCo releases them? Since the county has made things so cushy for them they will come right back and do it again

I don’t even understand this.

Was the protest regarding LGBQTIA issues? Why would a gay politician even be discussing this at a rally that has to do with protecting illegal immigration.

Don’t be stupid. He’s talking about mixed status families. The people here legally who love relatives who aren’t.

Yes, because it’s a violation of their 4th amendment rights to be held in jail on a civil detainer. Frederick county is defending itself in multiple lawsuits exactly for this issue. .

No he wasn’t. He just couldn’t pass up a chance to get the LBQTXYZ agenda out there. There was absolutely nothing about this event that had anything to do with gay rights.

Looks like they sued the police in Culpeper County and the judge threw it out. Here's a description of the case:
https://www.heritage.org/immigration/commentary/sheriff-was-sued-cooperating-ice-now-hes-vindicated

I realize it's from Heritage Foundation, so if you are concerned they are biased, here's a link directly to the court ruling:
http://www.vawd.uscourts.gov/OPINIONS/CONRAD/riosjenkinsopor715.pdf

The only Frederick case I could find is this:
https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/crime_and_justice/cops_and_crime/frederick-county-sheriff-s-office-target-of-lawsuit-by-immigrant/article_bd6d7c89-3700-53c8-95ae-a65b1876c95e.html

In that case, the person was pulled over for a traffic stop and asked her immigration status and they turned her over to ICE. No one in MoCo is looking for this. Instead, it's about those who were _arrested and in jail_ being handed to ICE when ICE requests a detainer.

You don't get arrested and placed in jail for a broken taillight.

That’s just your bigoted interpretation of his words. With no grounding in reality.

Culpepper county is not Maryland. Maryland’s Attorney General has issued a letter of advice that Maryland jurisdictions should not hold individuals in civil immigration detainers past their local release date, because the detainer has no probable cause a crime has been committed. And it constitutes a new seizure under the fourth amendment. For people who care about Constitutional rights, I don’t get why you are selective on who has these rights?

Also, Roxana Orellana Santos successfully won a suit in court against Frederick County in 2017.

https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/crime_and_justice/courts/woman-who-successfully-sued-county-sheriff-s-office-released-from/article_db5103ed-4989-5713-9889-ec99c60a13eb.html

Defending lawsuits costs money. If you don’t care about the Constitution, maybe you carne about taxes.
