Lara Spencer/GMA Mock Prince George for Liking Ballet Class

Network executives are freaking out over an offhand comment made by one of its TV correspondents one the air about a junior member of a famous family.

You would not believe how this completely blew up internally! The isn’t just about [the correspondent]. This is about the entire network! They have been kissing up to the family for YEARS and were on the verge of scoring a big interview with [another family member] when this happened and now everything may be ruined. They were going to suspend [the correspondent] but now it looks like there will be a public apology and a team of people trying to repair things behind the scenes.

My goodness! So much drama so early in the morning!

This isn't about one junior member of a famous family. It's about all the boys and girls who might be watching and be dissuaded from trying dance, and all the boys who are already dancing and get victimized again, and parents who are on the fence about what to let their sons do.

* meant it WASN’T a big deal

I'm positive none of those kids will grow up to be professional dancers since being a professional ballet dancer requires a set of genetic traits not many people in the world possess, but ballet lessons for kids, regardless of their inborn abilities, are extremely beneficial. Well more so than, say, football that half of his country worships.

But Lara Spencer and Co are too provincial to grasp that.

Ballet before the age of 6 is really just creative movement and doesn't do s*** for any of these things. At these age, they would get more benefit from a gymnastics class.

Creative movement develops rhythm, agility and the other things she mentioned.

People are reacting to what they think she said, not what actually happened. This is much ado about nothing from people who didn’t even see the clip. It’s just the current thing getting the firehouse of the internet’s wrath and tomorrow it will be something else.

How come Robin R and GS get free pass?

No. This is one of the unusual cases where what is being reported is a fair representation of what actually happened.

Robin R wasn’t there for the clip, and GS isn’t getting a free pass.

He's 5 (or actually, I don't remember how old he is, but he's just a child). If he enjoys something, that's nice. I suppose if he enjoyed bear baiting or dog fighting, that wouldn't be so nice. But ballet class? Why is that funny?

She was playing into gender stereotypes that “real boys” don’t dance ballet. She’s a fool. How can she legitimately interview anyone in the entertainment industry in the future?

“Duh. Boys who like ballet are probably homosexual. And that’s worthy of titters and sneering. Because The Gays are funny. And anal sex and blow jobs are gross.”

She’s a loser and an idiot.

I did ballet for 15 years about 30 years ago. Every boy I encountered in ballet is currently gay.

+100

People can rail against the “stereotype” of boys in ballet, but the truth is that the majority of them are gay.

Even if true, so what? Is it okay to mock gay people? Are they lesser persons than heterosexual people?

This. People are tweeting/sharing the actual, unedited clip. They ARE seeing the segment.

Agree. I watched the clip before making any judgment. It’s absolutely making fun of a boy wanting to do ballet. It’s set up as a joke (listed last in the series of his activities, said with a dramatic pause and full of smiles). Adding “we’ll see how long that lasts” confirms she was putting him down.

By full of smiles - I mean you can hear it in her voice and when the camera hits her she’s smiling.

I've known HS football players who took ballet. not a lot . . . but a few

They say it helps quite a bit with conditioning.

I don’t think the clip was a big deal either. I even heard GS say in the background “Good for him”. Everyone was laughing/in a jolly mood before this part even began.

Good for Prince George liking ballet! It is good for little boys. Lara shouldn’t have said what she said but it is being made into too. Oh a deal.
