are BCC and Whitman going to get less crowded?

This ! As a young family who bought into the Takoma Park hype and toughed out 4 years of elementary and recently moved to a better cluster. We ask ourselves why we didn't do it years ago. It is better when the teachers don’t have to consistently slow down for kids that might never catch up. I know the other moms feel similar but they turn it into this chase for enrichment for their pretty normal kids. They really just want the same thing of classes without kids derailing the curriculum. You can get that in the Bethesda schools without using luck and angles to get into special programs that really just replicate better environments.

Fleeing.. you are funny. Many of us don't want our kids at those schools. Its ironic how many flee the Bethesda schools for schools like Blair.

I think the solution to the BCC/Whitman overcrowding is to bus some of those kids elsewhere. It would be cheaper for a bus vs construction. Or, better, force those parents to drive their kids, like we have to as our school only gets one bus.

They don’t fee the Bethesda schools, the capitalize on an enrichment opportunity designed to get Bethesda kids to integrate high poverty schools to save them from the low scores and standards of the local kids. The programs are working just as they are intended to.

What on earth is "SES flight"?

What on earth is "SES flight"?

Middle class people moving away from an influx of poor people who pull their middle class communities into lower class Territory. Modern white flight

You might want to look up the term SES.

while context is typically added, we can all agree that poor minorities have little to no SES

I think its funny that people consider $350-600K homes with families making $100-300 or more poor.

We just need to bus kids to schools that are not overcrowded. Problem solved. Cheaper than an expansion.

count on it

I don’t see how MCPS avoids this. Development in BCC cluster is booming and can’t see how any future additionto BCC is possible

My guess is that if they need to shrink or alter the BCC zone, they will target neighborhoods/elementaries that feed into Westland, not the Silver Creek feeders. In the current climate, there's no way that MCPS will let a Bethesda HS become even *more* skewed in terms of racial/ethnic/SES demographics.

If this happens, pretty much everyone with kids living in current Westland feeders will move. The elementary schools in these areas have already been declining for years, and this will be the final nail in the coffin. This continued obsession with equality of outcomes and identity politics will eventually bankrupt the County. Northwest D.C. is rapidly becoming more attractive.

They'll likely move Westbrook to the Whitman cluster.

another fiction intended to sew fear. All the actual evidence shows the opposite to be true.

Call MCPS and ask for numbers, and stop fueling hate for Bethesda.

No one is hating Bethesda. However, there are schools in really poor condition that need to be torn down and rehabbed like BCC and Whitman get. To demand that BCC gets another expansion when other kids are going to overcrowded school in poor conditions is far more a priority. We all pay taxes. Why should one area get their schools updated and remodeled and not others.

Our elementary school has things like gutters falling down, sheds that need to be replaced or at least repaired. You are been really selfish. If overcrowding is an issue for you, send your child to private or move.

You really think there's a bias in which schools they choose to renovate? There are plenty of schools in other parts of MoCo that are undergoing or slated for renovation. See starting on page 25 of this document: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/MP20_EntireBook.pdf

None of the schools we are zoned for are slated for any upgrades. Other schools near us are falling down and horrible and none are on there either.
