are BCC and Whitman going to get less crowded?

But one of the PPs is right, we will not know who will be at Woodward/how it will be populated for at least 4 more years, when they begin the process.

Even if this is true, MCPS is free to completely ignore the Lyttonsville sector plan.

The Lyttonsville sector plan doesn't mention Woodward. Here is what it actually says:

"The analysis for the Westbard Sector
Plan examined both the Whitman and B-CC
Clusters and concluded that Whitman HS could
have a second addition beyond the additional
already programmed in the CIP, and with that
second addition there would be sufficient
capacity at the HS level across the Whitman and
B-CC Clusters."

Call MCPS and ask for numbers, and stop fueling hate for Bethesda.

No one is hating Bethesda. However, there are schools in really poor condition that need to be torn down and rehabbed like BCC and Whitman get. To demand that BCC gets another expansion when other kids are going to overcrowded school in poor conditions is far more a priority. We all pay taxes. Why should one area get their schools updated and remodeled and not others.

Our elementary school has things like gutters falling down, sheds that need to be replaced or at least repaired. You are been really selfish. If overcrowding is an issue for you, send your child to private or move.

Bethesda hating PP: I don't think BCC can get another addition - I'm pretty sure the facilities have maxxed out the site. BCC wasn't torn down - it was expanded because there were almost 2100 kids in a facility with capacity for 1680. You're complaining about a shed that needs replacement at your kid's elementary school; how would you feel if his or her school was overcrowded by 400 students? Finally, just a reminder, no one in Bethesda is determining the construction schedule for MCPS (or anything else for that matter.)

Our elementary school, was that crowded and had to have one grade at another school for a while. Our high school is not only overcrowded but Needs updating. At least you have updated facilities. I have to send my kids to school with filtered water bottles as there is lead in the fountains.

"Overcrowding" Yea OK...come to damascus or northwood even poolesville which is worst. Hallways are so slim and such a safety hazard for students. So nobody is HATING ON BETHESDA. You all get repairs and "additions" while other schools are in desperate need..

It should not be either or - it should be both! They have to deal with capacity (or the Fire Marshall will shut things down), and yes, MCPS should address old schools that have issues. No one is saying they shouldn't.

If two schools got remodels and they were poorly done and not considering capacity, they should not get another remodel when many schools have not been updated. There is only limited money. All schools should be brought to equal renovations then worry about expanding those that need it. We have trailers. If crowding is an issue, put some trailers in.

PP, this isn't about Bethesda, it's about MCPS and fast rates of enrollment growth across the county. All of us have had kids in portables, all of us have had kids in schools that need repairs. Many, many, many MCPS schools are overcrowded, including many in Bethesda. Here are heat maps for HS, middle and elementary utilization - everything in red is at or above full capacity: https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/school-notes-take-a-look-at-the-mcps-school-crowding-heat-maps/

This is from 2017-18, so before the new BCC addition had opened. All of the Bethesda HS were overcrowded, several MS, and a number of elementaries. If the map was from a year earlier, it would have also included Westland which was so overcrowded that kids had to stand on some bus routes and they were forbidden to use lockers between classes (insufficient space.) And because it was so crowded, Chevy Chase and North Chevy Chase elementaries had to house 6th graders as well (who were not given access to the same curriculum as all other MCPS MS students.) NCC didn't even have a gym until a couple of years ago.

There's a ton of other data out there, published by MCPS as well as by various PTAs and advocacy groups. There's simply no serious argument that Bethesda is somehow soaking up more than its fair share of MCPS resources.

If BCC got the new addition, its unfair to complain about overcrowding and saying they should get another one given other schools haven't been remodeled and still face overcrowding. You do realize most middle schools have 6 grade in them. Westland and a few others are the only ones that have been 7-8th.

What they should do is make all the elementary schools k-6, middle school 7-9 and high school 10-12.

JFC, no one is saying BCC should get another addition. AFAIK (and as I wrote upthread) I don't think BCC can even get another addition - I believe the site is maxxed out. And Westland has never been ONLY 7-8th; but it was so overcrowded that MCPS opted to keep 6th graders in several schools (NCC & CCES) with a more limited version of the standard middle school curriculum. They built the new middle school (Silver Creek) a few years ago to alleviate the overcrowding and now all 6th graders are housed in a MS in the BCC catchment.

PP, you don't seem to have a particularly strong grip on the facts but you keep spouting here about what MCPS should do and why your kids aren't sufficiently well-served by your current schools, and why it's all Bethesda's fault. Here's a tip: first get your facts straight, then find a way to advocate for what your school needs.

Of course BCC can. You can always build up.

Not when the base structure cannot support building up. And, as mentioned previously, capacity always takes priority over modernization, because of safety. Just ask the Fire Marshall. And, it is not an either or proposition! Schools should be safe (not overcrowded) and modern. MC is supposedly one of the wealthiest in the country - why can't we all advocate for both?

OK, then you build a new building. The point is that it's not site limitations, it's money limitations.

MC is not one of the richest county any more. MC ranked behind HC and FC in medium income in MD. In the. Etro area, FAIRFAX, Lourdon, and PW counties are richer than MC. Rich tax payees are dying or moving out of MC.
