FFS, I see the game you are playing. Vienna is 85% White/Asian just like Jamestown is 85% white/Asian. Now there are more FARMS in Vienna, which is not surprising b/c Jamestown is far from metro and job centers so remains low density. |
You get enough more that if you think all the public schools in the area are basically crappy, whether they are in NA or SA, you're going to choose SA and put your extra money towards private school. |
|
We can’t all go private.
There is literally not enough spaces for that either. The region isn’t prepared to handle the current density, let alone more. Of course education is going to suffer. Everything is going to suffer. |
The entire US is 77% white so a school that is 65% white is pretty diverse relatively speaking. |
Since the Hispanic population is broken out separately by APS you are comparing apples and oranges. The entire US is 61% non-Hispanic white and that percentage undoubtedly would be lower for those under 18. |
Is there a reason you’re not including Washington-lee hs? Which is arlingtons largest and in NA? On NORTH Stafford street? It’s 30 percent FRL and 45 percent nonhispanic white. |
Oh i was just showing that even at the ‘whitest’ NA high school, it is less white than FCC and Vienna high schools. Once you consider WL, it’s clear NA is diverse. Though definitely more so below Lee Hwy. |
Some parts of NA are among the least diverse places in the country. |
Which part? We’re talking about one of the geographically smallest counties in the country so talking about parts of a part (NA) is getting pretty small. Like what? A one mile square area isn’t diverse? Who’da thunk? That’s true in most of the country. |
| So the point here is to blame poor performance within APS on the demographics? That ship just went down some more. |
That’s true everywhere. The relationship between test performance is very strong. |
|
| Why does APS attract so few Asians and why is the achievement gap in APS so great? APS never grapples with this so long as white kids from higher income families do OK. It’s a mediocre system that takes credit for the few home runs scored by kids who started out on third base and overlooks everyone else. |
If we’re dealing in stereotypes, then I’d say it’s because Asian families are wealthy and prefer to live closer to work in large newer homes along the tech corridor stretching out past Dulles. The achievement gap is so great because the lower income students are mostly 1st or 2nd gen immigrants and there are language an cultural challenges, in addition to those associated with poverty. Generally, it’s already apparent to me that APS cares more about inclusivity than student performance; the gifted program is kinda fake, tons of resources are thrown at ESOL, etc. |
Exactly what data are you using to make this claim? There are many, many parts of the country that are 100% white. |
