I think any parent who stands up and takes personal accountability transparently in opposition should be listened to with respect. Hiding behind bullshit fake organizations and presenting flawed evidence in bad faith is not credible (and undermines any contention that your viewpoint is other than fringe, because otherwise you wouldn’t take such cowardly steps and would have more pride in your convictions.) |
And also, your objections will be duly noted and we will move on with policy supporters by the vast majority of the people. |
I am getting tired of repeating myself. 1) The Arlington Parent Coalition lists on their web site "research" from right-wing political groups and think tanks, and repeatedly references the American College of Pediatricians which has been identified as a hate group, and widely debunked as a fringe organization designed to confuse people with the real American Academy of Pediatrics 2) The APC identifies itself as a "diverse group", e.g. representative of a wide range of parents, yet presents no evidence of membership other than the single individual frequently quoted in articles 3) The APC conducted a "survey" and presents it as evidence of the student body feeling a certain way, yet doesn't provide methodology for the survey, and 90 students is not statistically significant for a population of 28,000 anyway A "legitimate" voice is 1) A person who speaks for themself, instead of pretending to speak for a lot of people 2) A person who doesn't use fake research to back up their position 3) A person who doesn't conduct fake surveys to back up their position How hard is this to understand? |
Look at how you label any opposition as hateful and bigoted. You’re not interested in a sincere conversation about parental concerns, and it’s easy to imagine that many parents would have a hard time standing up to such abuse. Stand down with your rhetoric, and maybe you’ll hear from more legitimate community members. |
STOP GASLIGHTING. Nobody is labeling "any opposition" as hateful and bigoted. The only person being labeled as hateful and bigoted is APC, because THEY CITE A KNOWN HATE GROUP REPEATEDLY. If you don't want to be called a bigot then stop quoting bigots. |
I might take the objections more seriously (that is, as raising legitimate issues and not reactionary opposition) if they separated out the issues better. The sports team objections affect few kids, the gym class and pronoun issues affect all kids. The fact that a girl with XY chromosomes might compete against Larla after school shouldn't be a reason to limit kids' access to their curriculum daily. |
Exactly I would absolutely take their objections more seriously if their web site wasn't filled with fake research. There is a real conversation to be had her. The competitive sports issue is complex. There are valid perspectives on both sides. It's hard to have a discussion when one side isn't willing to discuss the issues academically, and instead keeps pushing deception and lies at the public. Frankly, the Arlington Parent Coalition is doing a lot of harm to their own cause. They are making it hard to sort out the nuanced issues involved here because it's all being wrapped up in the fear and lies in their "research" section. I can't believe any rational person, regardless of where they fall on this issue, would want to align with someone who cites a hate group repeatedly. I know there are lots of people who might be OK with the bathroom issue, but have concerns about the privacy and sports issues. They may be concerns that can be resolved over time or with some kind of balance. It's hard to have that discussion when APC is waving the fear and fake news flag. |
I didn’t label opposition hateful and bigoted. But I am not impressed with anonymous opposition. I want to know who I am arguing with. And I get suspicious when you hide behind easily discredited “evidence” and fake organizations deliberately named to sound like legitimate organizations. If you are so worried about being called hateful or bigoted if you speak out transparently, perhaps you should consider that your viewpoint truly is out of step with mainstream cultural values. And please don’t make the mistake of feeling persecuted— you are being attacked for what you say, not for who you are. |
Yeah, the only person sounding persecuted and shrill here is the one attacking this group.
It’s such a turn off. |
What are you prattling on about now? No one cares about this group — it isn’t a factor and it yields no influence. Also, I suspect YOU are the group and I find it amusing watching you desperately seek validation as everyone tells you we see through your bullshit. |
Way to prove my point. You need to take a breath and find a hobby. - not in the group |
I love it when people argue on DCUM, and then tell other people doing the same thing to "find a hobby" if you think people engaged in this discussion should "find a hobby" then perhaps you should start by taking your own advice. Hypocrite. |
I haven’t argued on this topic. I made one comment about how you are coming across. Seriously, this isn’t a good look for you. |
I haven't either. I made one comment. Not a good look for you either, anonymous person trying to defend a hate group.. |
