How do you go outside... and not smell like outside?

I like how outside smells? Fresh air is not a bad odor to me.

There are things outside that may smell nice, but the "outside smell" you pick up, is not a nice smell. It's like a mix of cut grass, pennies, pollen spores, and dirt. If it's above 70 degrees, I will get that smell on me after just a few minutes outside, whether or not I sweat. It's an air contact thing.

Nobody notices this smell as a bad thing on you. You are fixated on but it's not a big deal.

This is quite possibly the most ridiculous post I've read here. I'm honestly questioning how you can go through life if things like "smelling like outside" bother you.

+1

And I’ve read A LOT of posts. WTF?

The people I know who "smell like outside" definitely have a sweat/BO smell. It's not super strong, but that's definitely it.

Those of you who notice when people smell like outside...do you smell it particularly bad today? I was one of the ones who didn't really notice the outside smell, but today I almost passed out when a guy sat next to me on Metro reeking of it. After walking around Dupont for a while, I took a sniff and realized that *I* was putting off some stinky fumes as well. That metallic, acrid scent. Ozone? It's heavy in the air today.

Well, there is a DC / Metro "outside" smell. DC smells like hot pollution in the summer, and the Metro smells like a combination of brake fluid, sweat, and urine.

I actually use the "Metro smell" to find the station entrances I'm not that familiar with. Nothing you can really do about it.

I didn't smell it especially strong today. For me, it's strongest on warm, humid, sunny days. Today was mostly cloudy and a little cooler.

And yeah, for those of you that have no idea WTF people are talking about, I think you're missing the gene. Like asparagus pee. You just can't pick up the smell on people, but it'd there. It's not BO - body odor smell is RANK. Smelling outside is more like... dirt + spores + metallic. The person doesn't necessarily *need* a shower, but at the same time a shower would be nice.

That’s not an outside smell- it’s a sweat and BO smell. That’s just as much an inside smell as outside.

There are stinky outside places and ones that smell good.

Yep, BO/sweat is different.

"Smell like outside" is like... you go outside for 20 minutes to water the lawn in the summer. You don't really exercise or sweat much, as you're just standing there. You will pick up the "smell like outside" on your skin. And it's not like flowers and freshly cut grass.

Fresh air smells good. But in DC sometimes the fresh air smells a little marshy/swampy. Still, that smell never clings to me.

Perhaps you are smelling your own or others BO. If so, when I smell something gross I just take several deep breaths after I am away from the smell and huff it hard out my nose, so I can get the smell out of my nose. I think thats the problem- I don’t think the smell is actually on you.

It is for me. I smell it in my clothes.

Again, it's not BO. It's a smell in the air that clings to your clothes, skin, and hair. I can go outside 10 minutes after taking a thorough shower, go outside for 20-30 minutes, do nothing athletic or sweaty, and come in smelling like stuff in the air outside.

It's a smell that for whatever reason, your personal nose chemistry does not pick up on. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

I doubt most people smell it on themselves. I think those of us concerned notice it with other people and think it must also be on us. It wears off after being in the AC. If I arrive to work on a humid day, I use a spritzer when I come inside.

I use baby powder and I think that helps a little. It keeps your skin dryer under your clothes plus smells fresh.
