How do you go outside... and not smell like outside?

That is so interesting, because I can smell it on my dog, but not on myself or my family. Maybe it’s ozone?

omg...... I thought it was just me. After I shower in the morning, I take my kid to the bus stop, come back and I can smell it on my hair. I HATE it. I lightly spray my hair with body spray to mask the smell.

I love you op for starting this thread. I thought it was just me. Oh the wonders of dcum.

I think it's more like a damp smell. I notice it on my kids and me too, even if there was no sweating. I used to live in CA, and never had this issue until I moved to the DC area. I think it must be the humidity.

I feel like it's more prominent on myself on a warm, but very dry, sunny day. I don't get it in the winter (either dry or snowy/damp days). Does anyone feel like this is a seasonal thing, or do you smell like outside even in the colder months?

I had no idea there are people who think smelling like outside is bad.

Maybe if you live in a very polluted area, next to pig farms or intense exhaust fumes, then it could be bad. But fresh air? Plants (including pollen)? Soil? I love those things, and I love when I've been outside for a long time and can then smell it in my hair when I come back inside.

+1

I have no idea what anyone is talking about. Especially when they start listing random totally different things and say, smells like that.

Guys, it’s called ozone. Look it up.

Cold has a different smell.

For me the smell just gets in my hair. The only thing that gets rid of it, other than washing my hair, is to put product in my hair like the Moroccan oil leave in conditioner or something similar. I agree with the previous post was mother of the smell is a wet dog smell. My kids smell it on me after I’ve taken a walk outside. I hate it

This is by far the saddest thing I've ever read. I only feel alive when I smell that smell. Indoors air is dead and suffocating.

I know what you mean, OP. It was the first complaint I had since moving to the east coast. I think it’s the humidity. I grew up in the pacific and lived in the west coast. Never smelled like a wet dog in the summer.

HAHA mine too - I swear we on DCUM talk about this at least once a year.

I smell it too. My DH says it's ozone. If you've ever had one of those ionic breeze air filters it smells similar. I always smell it when a group of people come back from the starbucks a couple blocks away.

Yeah, don't have an answer for you, OP. But here's a way to smell like outside without ever leaving home, maybe you can desensitize yourself?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/256843287/petrichor-oil-soaked-earth-fragrance

Materials
lake mud, Almond oil base

Don't take my word for it, people love this oil:
"Smells like a gentle shower in a forest, I love it! Next time, I'll buy a bigger bottle."
-Robert Adan on Oct 6, 2016

"Amazing product from an amazing seller. I was excited to try the scent of petrichor after everything I had read about it, and to my delight it really does smell like fresh soil after a rain, or even the hot cobbled streets of Paris in the summer after a summer rain, very soothing. "

It’s the smell of hot asphalt or building materials in a lot of places.
