From practical stand point, it is good to do it now. Because if the kids will ever want to get married in the church and will be required confirmation then, it is a whole lot of work and mess up your schedule. So you can just do it and not to use it if you will.

Not sure why churches are waiting so late to start confirmation...it's best around 13, before teenagers start getting involved in high school and want to skip church.

Doesn't doing it while they are young enough to force them, which is what you're suggesting, completely defeat the purpose of confirmation.
I received it when I was 12 and it was a totally pointless and frustrating experience.
I went to a Catholic college and was so jealous of my classmates who did confirmation in college - they learned so much and had a really rich, spiritual, interesting experience.
