Perhaps, but the renovation cycle is so long that, by the time they get around to actually renovating a school, conditions may have changed (the school that was over-capacity in 2008 may be under-enrolled in 2018, and vice versa). And in Falls Church's case, the fact that the building has been in poor condition just gave people one more incentive to pupil place their kids to Marshall and other schools, at least when that was an option. |
| The easiest solution for McLean would be to move the Timber Lane students to Falls Church. It’s already a split feeder, so eliminating the split would be good for all. |
Maybe, but most of the diversity at McLean comes from Timber Lane. I hope that option is off the table. |
That would also leave empty seats at renovated Langley, while crowding Falls Church before it is renovated. |
| I just heard from a friend that Strauss plans to announce a proposal to move part of McLean to Langley later this month. Didn't say if it would be Tysons or some other area. |
I hope it would be Tyson’s and/or Franklin Sherman between Rt123 and Old Dominion. However, she has been always fought against change for Franklin Sherman, so it may not even be a consideration on her part. |

The meeting to discuss will be at McLean HS on the evening of January 17th.
Moving the part of Franklin Sherman currently zoned for McLean to Langley just makes Langley that much richer than every other high school in the county. Moving some or all of Tysons would be more consistent with One Fairfax. |

| FCPS has far bigger overcrowding problems to solve and this doesn't move the needle. Hopefully whatever they come up with is more meaningful. |
McLean HS is projected to be the most overcrowded high school in the county and at 126% of capacity by FY 2023-24. Why shouldn't addressing this, whether through an addition or a boundary change with Langley, be a priority? |
NP. What are the capacity projections for the other FCPS HS for the same time frame? Like PP I was under the impression that the situation is far worse elsewhere in FCPS HS's. |
You can go to the FCPS web site and look at the draft CIP for FY 2020-24: https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcpsfacilities-planning-future/capital-improvement-program The projections for FY 2023-24 range from 126% at McLean to 79% at Langley. McLean, Centreville, Falls Church and Chantilly are the only high schools projected to be over 115% by then. |

| I feel sorry for the parents meeting with Janie Strauss on January 17th and hoping to get a straight answer. Whether or not she knows she is lying, she'll simply say whatever she thinks the parents want to hear. And then do something completely different. |
only if past is prologue. Plus she may be willing do to unpopular things since she is retiring. |
