My family is currently watching this series (the kids love it...) and Judy never had more than 2 lines per episode. My kids even asked why she was there. Her parents were foolish to ask for more money. |
I never noticed this until I had kids and then it drove me insane. The kids just disappear for days. |
Same with Reba. Two babies in the first season that are really central to the plot. They are shown a few times in the beginning then not again until the finale several years later. Why hasn't anyone told us here at DCUM we could parent like this! |
Golden girls had a lot of one off episodes. Remember when Dorothy was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? She was only fatigued for one episode. I also didn't understand how Sophia had that Brooklyn accent even though she supposedly grew up in Sicily. Her sister, too. |
That always bugged me, too. Ross had two kids and we barely saw the first one, then when Emma was born, I don't think the first one was ever mentioned again. Then Rachel decided to take a job in Paris with no thought at all about Emma. |
Also happens on Grey's Anatomy. Meredith has THREE kids. They must all live at the nursery at the hospital, though, because she never tends to them. |
Meredith's kids are at least acknowledged some of the time/tend to be around in morning scenes. And the seemingly 24/7 daycare at the hospital -- which no hospital actually has, FYI -- at least explains where they could be! Way better than, like, Friends. |
| I guess you guys have never seen a soap opera. My mom used to watch Y&R all the time. The kids are nowhere to be seen. These people are so busy thinking of ways to backstab each other but never mention their kids lol |
But then the kids who were born maybe five or so years ago suddenly are teenagers, ready to think up ways of backstabbing each other! |
| TV is about escapism. Watching a parent juggle a child is not escape. Kids are not interesting or entertaining or it's a family sitcom type show that they don't really make anymore. I agree, the kids thing bugs me, but I also would stop watching the show if all it became was them taking care of kids. |
I think you're missing the point. Writers often create babies as a plot point, then turn around and eliminate characters b/c it's hard to work with children. It's also weird for a character's arc when you make them a parent then make the kids nonexistent. It's easy stop introducing kids as props. |
| The Americans. They really left those kids alone when they were on joint operations all night? |
I actually think the early seasons of Friends had the Ross/dad story line pretty heavily featured and they handled that well. Plus, he had joint custody, so it made sense that he wasn't always around. But yeah, the Rachel thing was dumb. Would've been much better to have Monica and Chandler have the kids and show that transition. And agree, Meredith Gray went way to quickly from 0 kids to 3. I don't even know their names or sexes besides the oldest, Zola. One's Bailey? Who knows about the third.... |

In Buffy, Angel once said he couldn’t resuscitate her since vampires don’t breathe. But ... the show depicts vampires smoking.
Also, Mulder wore a wedding ring but never mentioned a wife. |
Didn’t watch either friends or gray’s anatomy. |
