OP again.
The "issues" with the previous owner's child appeared to happen when she was in middle school. Maybe older? I found notes the wife took while apparently speaking with medical professionals. It seemed liked she was going to go speak to the husband about it. Not sure what happened. I only saw a few family photos in the house when we came through a few times. I only know that her 2 sons have married and have children. No one lives nearby. The parents (now very elderly) have since split up. In fact, they were separated but living together in the house when we bought it. A PP's comment reminded me I've found toys "on" when they were clearly off. Literally, I'd be sitting in the guest room - which is ALWAYS freezing no matter the weather or if the heat is on/off - and I'd hear a toy go off in DC's room...while they were napping. Weird. |
I nominate this as best quote ever on DCUM... Anyway - I'm very freaked out now. Thanks everyone. It's a great reminder that I want to buy my next house new. Of course I have seen Poltergeist. So dear me, I don't think I can win. OP - I hope you can get to a resolution with this. |
Curious if the ghost believers have also seen UFOs? |
I don't think we're all doomed to hiding in closets for eternity. Maybe ghosts that are stuck in peoples' houses are people who think there is no place to go to. My MIL, who is not religious, had a heart attack 2 yrs ago and flatlined. After many attempts to revive her, she regained consciousness and asked the doctors, "Why did you bring me back?" She said she felt pain-free and saw her parents. When my best friend died, I was there holding her hand along with her mom, surrounded by family, friends, hospice, church groups, doctors and nurses. When they finally pronounced her dead, all of us saw a light over her body. We all kind of stared at it, like what is that? It faded after about a minute or two. The priest said that she had crossed over. My cousin was traveling in the Philippines, and crossed and old, rickety foot bridge. She told me her foot slipped through a gap, and she could've sworn she felt a hand grab her ankle and help her back onto the bridge. Sounds crazy, I know! But I'm hopeful that they mean something. |

This one definetely is not ghosts its the batteries. The Sesame Street toys are the worst. I've left the monitor on in an area that picks up from the family and been awakened by Elmo quite a few times at 3 am. My house is only 40 years old and the floor boards do create enough vibration to set some of the toys off, usually when I am trying to be quiet and not wake up the kids. Best solution buy non electronic toys, easier and more effective than a exorcism. |
I got a list of people whose hangers I'm gonna' rattle. |
People who do not believe in ghosts, demons or UFOs have very low IQs. That is just my opinion. |
PP here. Have you tried having your husband walk in the areas where you think you hear footsteps when it is quiet and you are very alert? There usually is so much background noise during the days with kids, radio, TV etc that you do not notice what this really sounds like. If its very quiet downstairs and my kids get up and run across their rooms it sounds like a herd of buffalo are upstairs.
We live farther out and I hear raccoons run across the roof from time to time. The strangest was a knock, knock, knock sound. I ignored it at first forgetting I was no longer an apartment dweller, and just guessed someone was doing maintenance. It dawned on me then that I'm in a SFH with the next house pretty far away. It turned out to be a woodpecker destroying my deck. |
I moved to a new city with my parents and my 2 siblings and for months I kept hearing little footsteps running upstairs. I also heard kitchen cabinet doors slamming (only the bottom ones). Then one night I thought I heard my little brother whining a little so I sat up and could see partially into his room from mine. I saw his shadow on the wall (looked like he was sitting up in bed) so I went in to see what was wrong and he was completely sleep lying down under the covers in his bed. I have never been so freaked out in my life!
Later that week when talking to some locals (it was a pretty small town) they asked if I lived in the yellow 2-story on such and such street and I said - HOW DID YOU KNOW?!? A little boy had been hit buy a car in front of this house a few years back while walking home from school and had died. To this day I think it was this little boy playing in the house. My parents thought I was crazy until one day while in the kitchen with my mom and my siblings out with my dad she heard the footsteps. He never harmed anyone and it was always playful noises. I'm still glad we only lived there for 6months though! I wasn't really a believer until then. |
Call TAPS (aka Ghost Hunters). Maybe Tango will come, too. He's very cute. |
Has something to do with radio frequencies, too. I don't understand it but some toys go on and off depending on what other things (like baby monitors) are being used nearby. |
We've had squirrels in our rafters and the def. sound like playful footsteps running. |
I don't know if anyone has ever had this happen, but sometimes I will be unplugging an appliance (clock radio, hair dryer, etc) and after it's unplugged, it may quick have a burst of residual energy. Now I realize it is normal, but when it first happened (unplugged my clock radio and then all of a sudden a song started to play) I felt like I was on an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. ...anyway... Do we all agree, talking dolls are like the scariest thing that could possibly happen? |
That's pretty funny because most people who believe in ghosts, demons and UFOS are the ones with the low IQs. |
OP I have to ask- is this house in Arlington? |
