I’m going to have to agree on this. There are no schools near me where whites are a majority. My white kids have been minorities since they set foot in school. Is it legitimate for me to ask where my kid will have the most white classmates? What’s the cutoff at which this is legitimate: 10%? 20%? Or can we just agree it’s not legitimate? If whites have to be ashamed to want to be around other whites then it seems everyone else should be too. |
Having South Asian population of 10-15% will be great. We are not looking for specific language or religion. |
You can get the statistics on greatschools and move accordingly. |
As far as many posts goes here, posters are talking about having 1-2 kids in class who look similar. Now it may be hard for you to understand because you never had to think about situation where 1-2 kids will look similar to your kids in class. Do you have a situation where in your kids class there are no white or your issue is that you are not in majority? Scenario 1: I want to have 15 out of 25 kids looking similar to my kids. Scenario 2: I want to have 10 out of 25 kids looking similar to my kids. Scenario3: I want to have 2-3 kids out of 25 looking similar to my kids. There is a large difference here. Take it your case. You are talking about scenario where your kids are not in majority. Is anyone talking about such situations here? OP even mentioned that they are not looking at Aushburn level thinking that it may not be good for their kids to be in majority South Asian school. Here you are complaining about not being in majority white school. Do you see any difference. |

School tries to put 2-3 kids who look similar in each class for a reason.
Now some of the posters above can go after School for being a racist by trying to ensure that every kid in class has at least 1-2 other kids who look similar to them. |
You don't have to ask anyone. MCPS provides data for whites for each school. |

Only Hindi speaking Indians of the Hindu religion are acceptable. Ugh This kind of attitude will get your children nowhere. How racist and close minded of you all to force this type of exclusion on your children. I know plenty of people who do this type of thing. It’s not any better than Donald Trunp’s rethoric in my opinion! |
I think we’re having a misunderstanding. My local high school is 8% white. I’m not just talking about not being in the majority. |
It will be hard to find a HS with 8% south Asian population in MD. Also, you can look up the data provided by MCPS if you need to move due to wanting to have more than 8%. OP situation is still different that yours. |
So you're in a minority in your high school, so what, the whole rest of everything is white in the US. Turn on the tv, look at magazines, read history, go to movies, look at the politicians, probably the teachers also. There is no shortage of white folks for your kids to see/hear/be around/learn about/find as role models. Will you stop acting like it's the same thing as being a minority in this country? For the love. |

Jewish Family here and chose Farmland ES due to having synagogues near by. To prove that I am not racist, do I need to go and stay 20 miles away from synagogues? Do I need to stay in area with no Jewish families ?
In Israel it was a non-issue, but not here. Similarly, for many white families, finding a church nearby may be a non-issue here, but you move to different area in world, it will become an issue. Some posters need to think twice and if in doubt just ask rather than pass a judgement. |
+1 I posted this a few pages back..it's Bethesda and Potomac. Not that hard. Now if you wanted to know what school has the most students of German ancestry, then you'd have to come on DCUM to find out, but I'm not sure anyone can tell you that. Also, European encompasses several countries, and they form a continent. Indian is one ethnicity from a large continent. See the difference? If OP asked "what school has the most Asians", then we'd say, go check MCPS stats, but usually it's the Wootton cluster. No need to be so offended. |
Seriously. We aren't white. We live in a community that is majority non-white. And yet my toddler still seems to have come to the conclusion that "Americans are white". I did not say anything remotely like this to him but somehow he came to that conclusion by watching TV, traveling, etc. |
| Even in non-white majority schools, majority of teachers are white. |
