How would you prefer to find out that your 15 year old is smoking pot?

Id rather be told directly, with facts stated, by the other parent.

I might not even believe an anonymous note (although I would investigate).

Be. I didn’t smoke ever. Dh also. Half my friend never even tried it. Everyone is different. Maybe its because I hung with a nerdy crowd.

This.

My 25 year old took a trip to a recreational use state recently. I asked her if she was going to try it. She wrinkled her nose and said no. She later complained that her traveling companion who did partake wasted an entire day of their trip by underestimating edibles.

I would rather *not* find out, unless it has gone from use to something more such as dealing. If my kid is a heavy user & their pot use is causing them problems, I'm likely to notice. If it's not causing them problems, I don't actually have a problem with them doing it. I have told them, however, that as an adult and a parent I have to make sure they know I disapprove of any illegal activities I know they are participating in. I would really rather not be put in that position.

I’d prefer to find out any way that doesn’t involve the police.

There are worse ways to find out than the police.
