How would you prefer to find out that your 15 year old is smoking pot?

Why do some people think that everyone likes pot? It's like saying everyone eats shrimp.

I used to be 15. I am now in my 40's. I never smoked pot.

For a friend I've known for 12 years with a kid is into something that might cause problems, I would not let it go. I would want friends to tell me if i were in their shoes.

If I felt i needed to tread lightly, I might say "you didn't hear this from me, but I've been hearing more that some of jacks classmates are getting into pot. Have you heard anything or seen any signs?"

Plus the parents seem like they are in denial about some obvious signs that their kid is using, so they may not take the message well.

If your kid's entire demeanor and behaviors have changed drastically, and the good friends have faded away to be replaced by new sketchy ones, maybe you should get a clue.

You have no clue if the parents are in denial.

This. I think the signs are almost always there on this stuff for parents who want to know.

I didn't try it til college, then only smoked it maybe a couple times a year for a few years.

Agree, I would absolutely want to know. Depending on the situation and your relationship with the parents, could email, text or call. Preface with something like, this is difficult to tell you, but your child is telling kids that he/she is smoking pot...

I never smoked pot either. Never had any interest. Did do some underage drinking in late high school and college. Everyone is different. None of my friends smoked pot either. For the most part we knew who did, though. But don't assume every kid will smoke pot.

Well yes I do because I talk to them quite a bit. Guess what, your kid isn't just holding a friend's juul that the friend dropped.

I'm in the do nothing with this information camp. Kids exaggerate and stories get made up and believed, even if only partly true or completely false. It is different if you walked into your family room and saw the kid getting high -- then I would tell.

Interesting about the PP who told about witnessing the bj in the bushes -- I really can't see telling about that. But I am realistic about teens having sex and my view is that if it seems like private and consensual behavior, MYOB.

Confidence. I’ve known the family for 12 years

You can't tell.

BTW, I had to tell my friend (our kids stated school together in K) a "rumor" about her son because the activity was risky and while I heard it from my son I also heard it from other sources. So, I had my son tell the boy, "my mom heard from other moms that you are doing X, Y, Z and my mom might tell your mom, you need to tell her first."

Recently I did tell a group of moms many of our kids are smoking pot and vaping. All of them are drinking and a few are having sex.

1/3 fell of their chair
1/3 agreed
1/3 didn't really know but were not surprised.

Is she mom who will fall off her chair?

What grade?

You can't cross examine or get additional details from an anonymous note, so I would want to be told by a person directly.

Same here. I guess I was just a nerd.

I found out on Instagram. Laugh about it now (she's 17 now) but showed my best friend from high school and we laughed and laughed. Than had a serious talk with my kid.

I was definitely a nerd. I did not smoke pot in MS or HS. Tried it once in college. I did not like how I felt. I don't drink either. I like my brain. AFAIK, my 16 yo is not into Pot, does not Vape, and is not having sex. (Yay Autism!).

Sorry you have such low standards for your kids and young adults in general.

Be. I didn’t smoke ever. Dh also. Half my friend never even tried it. Everyone is different. Maybe its because I hung with a nerdy crowd.

OP here same thing. Nerd who has never seen drugs.

It's BS and I was a total stoner in HS. Some people partied, others didn't, that's all.

I'd leave it alone if it's just weed or experimenting with alcohol, but anything else (like white powder substances or opiates) I'd let the other parents know. That stuff is way over a 15 year-old's head, I know from experience.
