Supporting ACPS in the voting booth

ACPS parent here. I want to know which candidates are pro-charter and/or vouchers. Those who are definitely do not get my vote.

Silberberg’s Vote: If I recall correctly, she was a No vote because she believed it did not adequately fund ACPS. The spin that her no vote means she’s against funding ACPS is a bit dishonest. She actually wanted more funding than what was in the package. Like an earlier poster, I was unhappy with my choices, but was leaning towards Wilson. And then the Potomac Yard debacle. I know they all knew it, but as a Metro employee he should have known better. It’s always the cover up that’s worse than the crime.

"Wilson has opted time and time again to tackle student enrollment challenges head-on. Silberberg has simply voted no on every proposal to confront the issue – and has not offered up any solutions of her own."

First your reactionary calling me a troll is inaccurate. I’ve never met either Wilson or Silberberg. Second, I appreciate the information, but you should understand you have tainted my reception to it because you opened with an insult. I could yet be persuaded either way in the Mayor’s race; your deportment towards a persuadable voter is not optimal for the candidate you support.

There are these pesky things called facts, Silberberg troll:

"Mayor Allison Silberberg cast the lone dissenting vote, and said after the budget passage that the 5.7 percent increase was too onerous on Alexandria taxpayers.

'This is far too much a burden on our citizens all at once. To me, this is just not acceptable,” she said, adding that she thought the original budget proposal from City Manager Mark Jinks, which included a 2.7-cent real estate tax rate increase, was proactive and prudent. “Make no mistake, it’s a historic tax rate increase.'"

Your post is so intellectually dishonest and disingenuous that I actually laughed out loud. Like a previous poster pointed out- she was voting against a massive 'historic' tax increase, not the schools. Wilson wants the increase and wants to spend it yesterday on pet projects. Laughably, he's quoted in your link (did you even read it?) talking about driving growth throughinvestment in infrastructure.

Yes, the dude who hid the deletion of the PYM south entrance is bragging about infrastructure investment.

How can anyone take that fool seriously?

x1000 for this. I think it is much worse that Wilson tried to cover up his actions. I also agree with the statement about the funding vote. The spin the Wilson supporters are putting on it is a completely mistaken point of fact.

I also am completely turned off by the poster/s who are indulging in personal attacks against other posters instead of sticking to the discussion of the candidates. It has moved me firmly into the Silberberg camp, a place that I didn't intend to be but here I am. Sigh.

Whoah, A whole lot of pruning going on.

Good jobs mods removing all those lies from the Wilson camp!

Silberberg on Tuesday! Alexandria deserves better than Justin Wilson!!!

I'll vote for whomever is in favor of purging the system of bureaucratic lifers who haven't seen a classroom in 20 years (or ever).

Anyone seen that video going around FB that the Wilson camp put together? It's his launch party at Live Oak.

He stands there in front of the crowd and brags about his role in PYM.

This was before all this crap became public.

So that means he stood there- KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THE SOUTH ENTRANCE HAD BEEN DELETED- and crows about infrastructure improvement he's part of/ driving.

It's sickening knowing what we now know he knew.

He knew it was dead when he was at that party. He lied to his own supporters at a party they threw for him.

You're going to vote for that guy?

He's a snake.

They all knew. The metro thing makes both mayoral candidates look terrible. That’s not an issue you can differentiate them on

Until you can produce a video of Silberberg- standing in front of a party thrown in her honor- lying threw her teeth to everyone in the room, I'll unequivacally say that Wilson is worse.

Tuesday is going to be interesting for sure.

I'm betting this will be the beginning of the end of his political career.

Exactly the type of discussion that has ACPS schools where they are today. Nothing will change on Tuesday, or in November. We will continue to fail those who need schools the most.

I've watched this play out at ACPS since 1992. Our kids went through and graduated and I'd never repeat my decision for them to enroll. I thought it would be okay but it wasn't.

I heard Justin Wilson on the Kojo Nambi show refer to ACPS as a "great school system". Why not tell the truth?

Politics makes for strange bedfellows. ACPS can build new or remodel buildings, but unless there is dramatic academic change it will never come up from the bottom on Virginia Board of Education.

We need a professional school board at this juncture: its time for major change in ACPS academics.

Truth. The time when Alexandria could rely on a board of non-experts selected by a popularity contest is long gone.

Why do you regret your decision? What specific charges would you like to see?
