FCPS would be absolutely bonkers to agree to such. At this point, a state takeover might be the best of all the bad options. |
ACPS: 75% accredited 71% reading proficiency 66% math proficiency 68% science proficiency 76% social studies proficiency http://schoolquality.virginia.gov/divisions/alexandria-city-public-schools |
And that's just in central office! |

PP here - does anyone know which school board incumbents are or are not running for re-election this cycle? The City seems to post all campaign filings, even by former candidates from years back, so I can’t really tell.
|
| The filing deadline for school board candidates is not until June 12 (same day as the primary). After that, the Board of Elections will post the list of candidates (both incumbents and new candidates) that have filed all necessary paperwork to qualify as a school board candidate. |

Wilson just lied through his teeth about the PYM boondoggle. Now you to empower him to do the same with our schools?
Hell no. I have kids in ACPS and no way in Hell do I want Wilson meddling with that system. |
Don't forget- this is the guy that wants to end public comments too. |
Are you kidding me? I missed that. Wow, just wow. So our democracy because an autocracy? NO. |
| Do you really believe that Silberberg knew nothing about the PYM? |
|
Imagine this:
If Wilson had been Mayor when this fiasco occurred, he would have prohibited public comment on it during council meetings Think about that for a moment. Remind you of anyone? |
So you folks moved over from the mayor thread to try this fabrication over here? FFS, of all the lies coming from the Silberberg camp, this is one of th most ridiculous (right up there with the assertion she “supports schools” when she was the only one who didn’t vote for the budget that included funding for repairs to schools. There are still public comments. They just actually follow the actual adopted procedures for public comments. Alison Siberberg was running the meetings off the rails. Link below is to an article explaining the actual facts of the situation. https://alextimes.com/2017/01/city-council-changes-public-comment-period/ Keep in mind it is from the Alexandria Times, who specifically recused itself from endorsing for mayor because one of it’s partners contributed to Silberberg, so they realized they couldn’t endorse when they already had an established bias. You would think the expectation would be for such a newsapaper to lean more towards favoring Silberberg, but even they seem to realize how ridiculous things had become, because in their editoriial they ran the same week the article above printed, they offered this editorial below, in favor of the change. https://alextimes.com/2017/01/our-view-with-public-comments-its-not-a-matter-of-if-but-when/ |

Initially we were going to vote for Wilson (for a change) even though we don't really like either candidate. However all of the publicity about the PY issue has changed our opinion of him so now we're going to vote for Silberberg.
We have significant concerns about Wilson's behind-the-scenes activities and it doesn't seem like he can be trusted. We are concerned that his actions will belie his words with ACPS funding just as they did with the PY and the Metro. And despite the PP's adamancy to the contrary, we have read statements in a variety of places indicating that Wilson is not open to listening to input from citizens. That is not acceptable to us. We wish there were better options but it will be Silberberg for us this time around. |
So you’re going to choose someone who is on the record as voting against ACPS? Makes no sense. Better to write in someone if you don’t like Wilson. |
