OP here-- and this is why I did not want the thread posted on the religion board. My question is not religious-based at all. What I'm really asking for is the coordinate, as in direct location, lol. I know I won't get that obviously and I am half-kidding, but where is what I am asking. Not asking what Luke 6:3 says, and not asking for basic answers of "he/she is with Jesus!"

My obsession is with the where and if you insist on replying with "Heaven!" then I need you to advise where heaven is located.

Maybe the question to ask is whether the "soul" is a real thing. Do trees and plants have souls? Do animals have souls? Do insects have souls? All those things live. And then they die. Do you think they have spirits that go somewhere? If not, why would humans have something different? Obviously people who believe in a god have an answer to that. But I've always been obssessed with the idea that this "soul" that we think we have is simply consciousness that comes sbout through electrical currents uniting cells in my brain. I mean, think about people who have experienced a catastrophic accident or illness that takes away their consciousness/personality or completely changes who they used to be, such as someone with Alzheimer's or in a vegetative state. What is the soul of that person? Is it the old version of themselves, hanging out somewhere undetected?

Anyway, just as I don't really think a fly has a soul and when it dies, it dies, I suspect when we die our brain cells cease working and consciousness disappears.

While this is your truth and belief, it is not THE truth. Not everyone is a follower of Christ. If you understand the Bible, you have seen numerous parallels with other much older belief systems. Think about the concept of "do unto other as you'd have done to you or it will come back to you" or the idea of an afterlife. Those did not originate with the monotheistic religions.

The frightening recollections were often connected to those who had addictions or who attempted suicide. talk about "breathing new life" into a person!

OP here, and this is what bugs me. Of all the things we are able to figure out, death is the only one where are forced to make assumptions. Easily the second most important date of your life behind the day you were born, yet so few people seem interested.

OP I'm reading a book by a neurologist named Eben Alexander about his own near death experience and subsequent research into the whole phenomenon. I think it will give you the answers you're looking for

Where is the soul after death? I understand that people can’t imagine that there can be no consciousness at all. That is, until they have a procedure done with propofol. Where is the soul then? If there is no consciousness when the brain is active but on propofol, how can there be consciousness if the brain is dead?

If you are really obsessed how to find Heaven, then you should start educating yourself. Not everyone will find it. I hope you will find your coordinates to Heaven.

I, too, love reading the NDERF page. Many accounts of near-death experiences have that sentiment in common: “Of course! How could I have forgotten??”

I also see spirits of other departed, in addition to my relatives. The visitation happens usually shorty after sonmeone's death and it is distinctly different from an ordinary dream. I had the first encounter with a spirit of a deceased when I was 8-years-old.
Since then I had been visited by almost all departed in my family.
A recent example of a visit by a non-relative was the dead father of one of my high school friends from 20 years ago. I am friendly with that friend but not overly close. I talked to her shortly thereafter only to find out that the anniversary of her father's death was on the day I was visited by him.

Death allows us to appreciate life, as in you can't know short until you know long, heavy without not-heavy. Until you die, you don't have to worry about dying cuz you die only once. Until that happens, you are alive.
