It’s the only option in the city if you are interested in French (we didn’t apply to any other immersion schools). We tried 4 years in a row (made it to #1 on the WL once) and eventually gave up.

And thus, you're really competing for 15 seats at Pk3, and just a couple more every year after that.

I was just looking at our PK4 numbers from 2 years ago - we were at #3 in the initial lottery draw for French and never got a call.

These odds are making me depressed. Did you eventually get in the next year?

Nope - we've had really good luck in the lottery otherwise too - this year (for 1st grade) we're again sitting in single digits for French, but I don't expect it to go anywhere. Stokes and DC Bilingual are the only Wards 5/6 charter schools we've never gotten into (of the 12 more popular ones among the DCUM crowd).

I just looked at the numbers from two years ago and I see they made 3 offers, but I'm assuming they went to siblings. Smh. Welp.

That's why Stokes replicated.

I called last week. I was specifically asking about prek4, but admissions indicated that several offers went out and that they have until the end of the week to accept. So I assume we'll have a better idea of all of this next week.

Last year we were #13 on the waitlist for spanish pk4. We received an offer in late September/early October. So, it moved at least that far...there's hope!

How has your LO’s experience been?

Why did they have so many openings last year? Did they open up a new class?

My K numbers, 80s Spanish, 40s French, just dropped by 1. First movement in a long time.

We ended up not taking the offer. It was a weird situation. They called and offered the spot to my PK4 child. I asked if they also had space for my K child (or what the likelihood would be of them eventually getting in). They said they would check and call me back when an administrator was in the office. I never received a call back, but I did receive an automated MySchool email the next morning that I had declined the spot.

I think they were in a rush to fill spots before "count day" and couldn't be bothered by follow-up questions. It really annoyed me at the time and we were/are happy at our current school, so just let it go and stayed put.

This is a bit more promising at least

We got in off the Spanish K waitlist on Friday, and we are thrilled. We were #2 when we got the offer, and started out at #4, so we were very well positioned, but I wasn't terribly hopeful. We accepted the spot.
