School lockdown... every man for themselves plan

Anonymous
Op here.
At my husband’s school, the plan for an active shooter is for everyone to go into the auditorium or office and apparently the doors will be barricaded there. I told him that if that is the plan and all of the high school students know to get to the auditorium (where they will be sitting ducks) that he should then just leave.

I think the plan is stupid. Because it seems like having hundreds of kids roaming through the hall to get to the office with auditorium puts them all at risk of being shot but obviously this plan is half baked anyway.

That is a ridiculous plan. If the active shooter is a student at the school, then that student knows they just need to go to the auditorium and the whole school will be there. Your husband should leave WITH students.

OP, your spouse may find life is not much worth living once it comes out on social media that he was a coward and ran home while his students were slaughtered.

Buy him a bullet proof vest.

If the plan is to put everyone in the auditorium, and he does that and then slips out the back door.... how exactly has he done anything wrong? If students are killed, it’s the fault of the admin who came up with that dumbass plan. You can’t expect people to blindly follow because you came up with a plan that will probably lead to more carnage.

Better yet, anyone who is considering shooting people, seek counseling immediately. Let's solve the root of the problem.

Ok so this isn’t about “every man for himself”, this is “don’t go with a stupid plan.” Where’s his room OP? If he’s near any exits, can’t he instruct his class to run out a door with him (frankly NOT going in the direction of the hordes headed to the auditorium bc any disgruntled student knows all traffic will be going that way)?

What district is this?? Small town? I’m surprised, most in this area have elaborate plans; some worked with security consultants to decide plans and most aren’t dumb enough to want 3000 people in one room?!? You want people congregated in small numbers if they can’t run.

If my two choices are (a) dead, or (b) reviled on social media, I'll take (b) every time.

Why are you telling everyone what the plan is? Now all the crazies will go to the auditorium.

If you want to protect children against gunman then hire SWAT officers to be stationed at schools. Stop asking resource officers and teachers to protect children.

Bullshit. Resource officers are law enforcement officers and they are supposed to protect children.

Yes, but how are they supposed to protect children, and from what? Please be more specific.

Well duh we have an example in Maryland of an SRO killing an active shooter, so the obvious answer is "they protect children from active shooters by killing the shooter".

More accurately: we have an example in Maryland of an SRO shooting at an active shooter. We do not yet know whether the SRO killed the active shooter.

Is that what you think SROs are there for? To shoot at people in school who are shooting at people?

We know he shot the kid.

And yes, shooting active shooters is indeed one of their jobs. Not the only one, but most certainly it is one.

How do we know this?

I was a poster that disagreed with your original post, but if that's their active shooter plan then it is very dangerous.
I would suggest that your DH propose that the school administration/principal talk to the local police department to develop a realistic active shooter plan.

Here is a video of a police officer talking to an elementary class about the ALICE active shooter response method.

Might even get his ass kicked by some grieving parents.
