| As is always the case, two wrongs don’t make a right. Capital punishment is about revenge pure and simple. It has little value as a deterrent to murder, especially when it can take decades before a prisoner is actually put to death. |
That's a completely different issue than the state killing innocent people. And you know it. Keep violent repeat criminals locked up. No one is going to argue with that. It's terrible to lock up someone innocent. But once the state deliberately kills someone innocent it verges into horror. And when there is a system that overwhelmingly kills one race over another for the same or similar crimes, then you have a matter of injustice. That is yet another reason to get rid of this barbaric practice. |
What does that have to do with the state executing innocent people? Can you explain? You are saying kill everyone accused of violent crimes, even those who are not guilty of the crime, so to ensure that not a single guilty person goes free, is that your argument?? Sounds swell until it's someone you know and love who is wrongly accused. |
PP here. People DO argue with keeping murderers, rapists, and pedophiles locked up. I'm fine doing away with capital punishment; but no parole or early release for those who commit heinous, violent crimes. |
No, it is not like suffocating. |
