Shutdown Rhetoric

Pelosi asked Paul Ryan to put the bipartisan House deal on the floor for a vote. Paul Ryan said no.

Lindsey Graham and Jerry Moran asked for a 4-5 day funding extension to buy time for a bipartisan deal. Answer was no.

But at least four Republican Senators, probably more, oppose the GOP funding bill. This means Republicans do not even have a simple majority of 50 votes for their partisan bill.

With time running out, Trump thought it was more important to tweet the Fake News Awards and opposition to the House GOP bill.

So, we're full circle. Republicans can't govern. Strategy is now turning to how message blame. And oh - Trump is disappointed with Mitch again (for not being able to read his mind). Sad Mitch will now make a last ditch pitch to blame Dems as obstructionists.

They are doing a pretty good job so far: tax bill, judicial appointments at a record pace, deregulation, individual mandate repealed, a roaring stock market.

That’s not really governing.

Call it what you wish but it is getting things done.

You're a Dem and you don't get it? You don't get that the GOP keeps stringing us along on DACA to get us to agree to other stuff only to shove DACA under the rug again? And then pull it out when it's convenient to get some needed Dem votes on other stuff, only to stuff it away again? No one on the right is acknowledging that they are toying with human beings who have clue what's going to happen to them in the next few months and are scared out of their minds because of it, because they don't care. They don't care because they don't seem them as people deserving of some minimal level of respect as such. They are pawns in a political game that the GOP wants to keep playing with.

DACA is a non-issue for now: after all, a Democratic appointed federal judge has stayed Trump's EO leaving Obama's program still in effect.

Let the Supreme court decide and then deal with it.

If the injunction is struck down, DACA protections end on March 5th. Anyone who supports DACA but thinks we can get complacent and then pull together a last minute deal a month from now is a fool.

It’s junking over the country and the majority wishes. There are some words for it. But it ain’t governing, which is what you claimed it was.

Dems should not give an inch on this. And I stand to lose money from the shutdown. Let the GOP hold this hot potato. I hope they get obliterated across the country like they have been in all the special elections.

-Our great-grandchilden will be paying for the tax bill
-GOP refused to allow perfectly qualified nominees onto the bench. These are all stolen seats.
-Our children and grandchildren will be paying the health price for the deregulation, particularly on things like the use of dangerous pesticides. Why is that a win?
-I'll reserve judgement to see what the rest of the healthcare solution from the GOP is. As of now, the ACA had re-enrollment in high numbers despite efforts to surpress.
-The stock market is irrelevant to most Americans, but even if you want to be granted this credit, it went up more under Obama (so far) in terms of percentage growth.

Don't be so downcast. Yes, I know you wanted Hillary but that did not happen. Trump is doing what he said he would and so far he has done a pretty good job in terms of his agenda despite his tweets.

Wait, I am confused. Aren't we talking about Congress?

But, they are following Trump's lead ....... at least, that was the constant refrain from Democrats on this forum that Republicans in Congress were gutless and just doing what Trump wanted. Make up your minds.

Hmm! Are we watching the same elections? These were the ones that were held by Republicans and the only one they lost was the senate seat in Alabama.

Congressional special elections:

Kansas' 4th Mike Pompeo

Montana's At-Large Ryan Zinke

Georgia's 6th Tom Price

South Carolina's 5th Mick Mulvaney

US Senator from Alabama Jeff Sessions

Utah's 3rd Jason Chaffetz

Alabama and Wisconsin say "hold my beer"

And look at the margins in the races you cited. Each should have been a gimme by double digits and instead, many of them were close.

Now you sound like Hillary talking about the popular vote or when she said that 70K votes in the blue wall states and she'd be the president.

A win is a win is a win .......... that is the way it works.

How many seats have democrats flipped and how many have republicans flipped since Trump took office? Go ahead and count, I'll wait. Spoiler: it ain't good for the GOP. Like, at all.

Yes. They don’t like government that works for everyone. They want government to work for the rich then tap out.

The Democrats flipped Sessions and the Republicans have not flipped any at congressional level.
