Any advice? She's in college (NVCC) and I'm concerned it will go to the wayside with all the new responsibility. Health issuance will not cover it, Would we have to pay out of packet?

She works 20 hours a week and earns 8 an hour.

Problem with medicare is government assistant and I always thought it was for the lazy, but accidents happen but I don't want to tell people that the baby might have to be on it..

Why isn’t she on your insurance? Don’t want people to think your daughter is lazy trash? Don’t raise lazy trash!

The insurance will cover her till 26, but it doesn't her kids.
I apologize for thinking that. Be honest no one ever thought that?

Medicaid is for lazy, irresponsible people LIKE YOUR DAUGHTER who got herself pregnant, and it is to take care of the child, who is in no way responsible for the fault of her mother.

I don't think it's true that you won't be able to get the newborn covered. Newborns a usually covered as part of whatever plan the parent is on for some initial period. What that period is varies by state.

The baby and mother will also have options to be covered. Covered by what insurance also varies by state and by income level and whether they are a dependent or not. But options might be to go on Medicaid or CHIP, buy private or buy in the Obamacare marketplace. Having a baby is a qualifying life event that means one can enroll outside the notmal open enrollment period. You should call your state Obamacare marketplace and try to get someone to walk uou through options.

Is is possible for your daughter to talk with some younger single moms and get the straight dope on what it is like. It will destroy her life and you will end up with the child. Lots of young women try this as a way to make a guy commit to something. Bad idea.

Having a baby is a qualifying life event, OP’s daughter will stilll need coverage for prenatal care and L&D costs. Most insurance plans that allow dependents til 26 specifically exclude care associated with the dependent’s pregnancy. It is not too late for the daughter to enroll in Medicaid is she qualifies.

Kick her off your insurance and make her get insurance through the marketplace.

Also, FIY, your insurance WILL cover her pregnancy. It will NOT cover the baby once it's born. But the baby will automatically qualify for Medicaid.

Also, for those saying "who will know the baby is on Medicaid?" I don't know where you live, but where I live in the suburbs, most doctor's offices have notices that they no longer accept Medicaid. The doctor's that do accept it in my town are few and far between, so if you're going to Dr. Smith on main street, it's because you're on Medicaid, not because he's a fantastic doctor.

WOW! She's a medical marvel if she's able to do that! The DAD should be involved in figuring this out.

And, to this PP, you are a class A piece of shit.

Baby is on it automatically
Have her apply for wic
Apply for family housing and financial aid for school - she's now her own family snd will qualify also get on the waitlist for the daycare at school

This is how welfare generation start. Please don't keep a baby you can't afford. We don't need more takers.

This is your concern? I hope you never need help from the government (other than all of the subsidies and tax breaks you no likely already receive.)

Your lack of compassion and empathy are revolting.

Says you. My life as an adoptee has been miserable and feels like a life sentence. And I know many fellow adoptees who also feel this way. Adoptees have significantly higher depression and suicide rates for a reason.

Actually the same thing can be said kids of teen moms. In addition they have higher rates of criminality and lower IQs.

Could actually be more of a correlation than causation. What many teen moms have in common are many of them have pre-existing mental health issues, which can lead to poor decisions. Your life might be just as miserable and depressing if you birth mother had raised your herself, but then you might have had poverty and a whole other set of social issues layered on top of your depression that would be there no matter your circumstance. REAL depression (not situational temporary depression) is most always chemical and has very strong genetic influences.

Anonymous wrote:If, for some obscure and little-known insuance rule, the pregnancy isn’t covered, why doesn’t she go get a policy now? Pregnancy is not a pre-existing condition. Obamacare changed the rules on this.

I really don’t understand why this insurance “problem” couldn’t be resolved with a simple google search.

Only ACA plans (and Medicaid and some employer-sponsored) offer maternity coverage for pregnancies that pre-exist the effective coverage date. She missed the signup deadline for Obamacare plans.

All new plans are ACA-compliant plans. ACA is a law, not a plan. Having a baby, or losing current health insurance allows someone to sign up outside the usual enrollment period. Again, this is all easily found via a google search.

Your daughter is about to be a teen mom. If anyone is going to think poorly of her THAT will be why, not because she needs Medicare, which the average person wouldn't even know.

+1. You can't get yourself pregnant. A man gets you pregnant. It takes two.

This is so American. I just came from Stockholm, and there are tons of moms who are 29-25 with 2-3 kids. They are young, stylish and happy. In America it is almost a crime to have a kid at 18. She is an adult, she is highly capable to raise a child.
