It won't. None of the people supporting this bill have any principles. Bob Corker previously said he wouldn't support anything that added to the deficit AT ALL. Now the trigger only kicks in when the deficit increases ALOT. It is an unabashed cash grab for the rich and for that reason it will pass. If they were trying to pass something that would "benefit the people" they would bargain and bicker for months. None of that. Gross.

+1 not to mention just about everyone I know who works for the federal government hates the shutdowns because they care about their mission and the people/projects they serve.
One little example is what happens to our scientific research when government scientists are locked out of their labs and can't tend to their experiments.

When we had the last govt shutdown, the WaPo ran a story about a "poor" fed, earning around $100,000, who was crying how she couldn't pay her bills if she missed a paycheck, even temporarily, and would have to cancel her trip to Prague. I thought.....wth...why did you schedule a trip to Prauge when you have NO emergency sayings and you work for the govt, where a govt shutdown is always a possibility? P.S. I was laid off when I was earning $75,000, and it took me more than 6 months to find a new job. I didn't run into trouble because I had an emergency savings account in case I got laid off, as happens in private industry. I sacrificed to build up that account but I manages to do it.

Many federal workers do have emergency savings but it can take years to build that up especially if you live in a high COL area and when you have had pay freezes for years. Also, one of the reasons people take government jobs is because of the job security and knowing they have an employer who treats them well. The federal government has been a standard bearer in many respects - it is a meritocracy and it is easier for women, veterans, minorities to rise in the ranks based on merit. Federal Workers are generally treated well and with respect by their employer.

Good grief. You are severely out if touch. Everyone would like to have an emergency fund that would get them by indefinitely. It’s just not possibly for everyone and there are MANY factors other than salary such as health expenses, number of kids, student loans/debt, single parents, etc. And surely you realize that $80K does not get you very far in DC.

Saving to a rainy day is selfish and insensitive? Well, I’ll be... I worked hard enough and saved enough to give college tuition for a junior college to a relative when I was in 10th grade.
