I'd probably stick to one at a time. God forbid you accidentally end up pregnant and have to figure out whose it is! But over a lifetime? Totally your call.

I'm single again in my 40s and have had as many as three overlapping, which makes up for the years of my marriage when it was mostly zero.

Not true. Having a FWB actually helped me when dating. Kept me from getting serious with men who weren't great fits just to have companionship. I'd see FWB once a month and date other guys the rest of the time. Only slept with one guy at a time (stopped see FWB when having sex in a relationship). Totally took the pressure off of finding a guy to date.
