No offense, but it isn't patronizing to tell these adults HOW to protest? You want them to protest in the least objectionable and disruptive manner. That kind of defeats the purpose of the protest. And for the record, not all the students booed. Some QUIETLY turned their backs.

I saw the video. Sure sounded noisy and rude to me. Some may have quietly turned their banks, but others did not. Since there's no way to know which ones were belligerent, the entire school will look bad to some emoloyers, and it will work against these students. In some cases. And with the job marker as tough as it is, you don't won't to burn bridges before they're even built.

And adults don't protest like that. That's the point some of us are making. These "adults" are going to have a tough time dealing in the real world. Do you advocate them turning their backs on their bosses if they don't like the assignment or process?

Oh you saw the video - WHOA!! SOMEBODY PIN A MEDAL FOR OUTSTANDING ACUMEN ON THIS POSTER'S CHEST!!

Well, did you hear the outrage around campus the minute it was announced DeVos was selected to speak?
And did you see all the people marching outside New Mt. Zion church on Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard days before graduation?
And did you know that the NAACP Florida State Conference president called for the resignation of two Bethune-Cookman University officials a week after the school invited DeVos to serve as its keynote commencement speaker?

Of course you didn't...it wasn't noisy and rude enough for you to take notice.

HA! Just like the "good old days of slavery" ..right? You Trumpsters are something else.

This was at a Historically-Black College, and the government has invested in them for decades. In fact, Trump just recently signed an agreement giving them more clout. Why bite the hand that feeds you?

Not sure what it is that they fear so much about this woman.

...as if you Trumpsters would hire black people. Your excuse is lame and illegal by the way

DeVos should have spent some time reading about "DeBois." WTF does she have to offer to these graduates? Stories about privilege and wealth inheritance? Marrying well? Needing guns to fight off rogue bears? The woman is a clueless embarrassment, as evidenced in part her snarky tweets impugning some D.C. middle school teachers. She has only the interests of those seeking to make a buck off of education in mind.

I totally agree. And, good for the president of the college to say something to the students about their behavior.

Right, they should be so grateful to have her over their own objections. Who are they to have an opinion about their own commencement ceremony? Or education?

So, you condone rude behavior then. Hope you don’t teach your children how to be rude and disrespectful.

Right... there's a time and a place... You don't protest everywhere at all times. Learning when to do something and when to NOT is an important adult skill.

Why not look into it and find out?
Why concede to your assumptions and presume these are just a bunch of intolerant thugs acting out (as usual, right?).
Why not actually take a moment in between bitching about the audacity of an affluent white woman being so callously disrespected and look into what these students at this university found offensive about her invitation to speak. Why not look into why they felt obligated to take some type of stand against her speaking. Why not look into why, when their objections were ignored by the school administration, they still felt compelled to make their voices be heard and show some type of solidarity during that commencement address. Why not look into who that message they sent was directed towards - was it just DeVos or was it the school or was it the impression that they were being exploited to set up a staged media event so the school could get a few extra dollars...
Why not look into all that instead of standing there stupefied wondering what it is they object to.

I hate to break it to you but there is a big difference between the relationship between a willing employee and their boss/supervisor than between a student and the commencement speaker.
Now, if you don't get that, then your education failed you, not them.

Then you are really stupid. This is the college President's fault. President Trump invited the HBCU Presidents to the WH for a photo op then last week said that he wasn't sure whether it was unconstitutional to support some of the loan programs to HBCUs. I don't blame the students. Trump is no friend to poor people or black people.

Not PP, but I do NOT teach my children that politeness overrides everything else.

Personally, I think they should have all stood up and walked out of the room when she began speaking.
