As for OP: I completely fail to see the problem, at ALL. You sound like my previous neighbor who freaked out on her DD when she came home from work and found out my DS (they were always friends) was there hanging out in the basemet. Nothing else, just playing. Both had just turned 12, and her DD didn't like to be home alone. Completely absurd.

If the police were involved, I think the boy's parents are just reacting in a way they think will protect their son from being thrown in jail. I don't think they are insane, just shell shocked at the potential of their kid being thrown jail and having his life ruined over fairly common teen activity. I'm not saying I agree with a 14 and 16 year old having sex, but I also don't think it rises to the level of calling the police if it's consensual as the post makes it seem.
