Methinks the word doesn't mean what you think it means...

New Hope, PA / Lambertville NJ (across the Delaware River from each other). Surprisingly hipster.

Help me out with a suggestion for a place to go on a 1-2 week vacation? I'd love if the town was known for B-and-Bs, had a chipotle, starbucks, and a whole foods centrally located and was on the water.

Thank you!

It's on the water, but not the sea - Burlington, VT - on Lake Champlain. Has everything you could want for hipster vibe.

Not hipster, but artsy. Both have long housed large gay populations. Not enough to keep you busy for 2 weeks.

Can the Whole Foods be nearby?

Bar Harbor, ME

Portland is the closest Whole Foods to Bar Harbor, hours away.

There is a Whole Foods-like store in Ellsworth.

+1

It's not on the coast but it's very hipster and fun. Great art, great food scene, great bar scene.

I was just about to say - I am from RI and this would totally meet what you're looking for. Prov is a fantastic small city.

If you wanted someplace smaller than Providence, maybe check out Newport - it's got some patrician parts but also some hipster elements. Plus, on the ocean. And if you want even smaller than that, try Westerly, RI. Taylor Swift has a house there, which doesn't really suggest hipsterdom, but there's also a lot of other nice fun stuff.

Pawtucket's actually another place you might try in RI. It used to be very industrial, but a lot of the old mills have been converted into lofts, and there's a good arts scene and restaurants. And it borders Providence. RI is so small anyway.

There's a little trickle that goest through the south part of downtown, it's called Carroll Creek, and it barely qualifies as water.

Downtown Frederick definitely has a hipster vibe. I live in Frederick County, so I'm biased, but I think downtown Frederick is great- kind of a hidden gem. That said, as great as it is, I couldn't see taking a vacation there. Day trip definitely, weekend maybe, more than that -no.

Provincetown, MA? Take the ferry from Boston if you don't like to drive. There's a natural food store.

If it must be Whole Foods, try Hyannis.

Northampton is nice but there's just a river, not the ocean. Brattleboro, VT is similar (great food co-op though!)

Definitely Portsmouth, NH. I'm here now - It's the bomb. Quick trip from Manchester Airport.

But where or where is that photo that OP posted from?

+1 Should have everything you're looking for. From downtown you can walk to Starbucks or the local coffee shop. Can't walk to Chipotle but there is a good little local place called Dos Burritos that's walkable and much better than Chipotle anyway.
