East Coast Small-Town with a Hipster Vibe

Anonymous
I'm looking for a small town within a 3-5 hour flight from D.C., on the east coast (literally), and with a hipster vibe. I've always wanted to go to Rhode Island for instance but I don't know much about it.

Help me out with a suggestion for a place to go on a 1-2 week vacation? I'd love if the town was known for B-and-Bs, had a chipotle, starbucks, and a whole foods centrally located and was on the water.

Thank you!

I was hoping to avoid big cities and a flight out to the west coast.

I really want something like the small towns you see on TV shows like Gilmore Girls or The Vampire Diaries. Except on the water and preferably I can find a condo/VRBO townhouse that is on top of a Chipotle.

Something like this?

Ithaca

Not on the coast but it is gorges and it has a cute albeit hippy/hipster vibe to it. Lots of outdoor activities and good local restaurants

OP here. I love the small-town vibe of Ithaca, its exactly the kind of place I was looking for and I've been there. Unfortunately its a PITA to get to and I'm not big on driving.

It's not by the water but you can easily get to North Hampton MA from here (via flight to hartford on southwest). from there you can visit Mass MOCA, williamstown theater fest
