It's not on the coast but it's very hipster and fun. Great art, great food scene, great bar scene.

Richmond VA is not a small town, but very hipster and on the James River. Norfolk VA is also not small, has crime, but is trying to reinvent a hipster downtown and is on the water.

I'm from Carrboro and it's great, but I wouldn't vacation there.

Help me out with a suggestion for a place to go on a 1-2 week vacation? I'd love if the town was known for B-and-Bs, had a chipotle, starbucks, and a whole foods centrally located and was on the water.

Thank you!

So depressing.

I would caution not to stray too far from the beaten path. You'd be surprised how 'Southern' most of NC really is... definitely no hipster vibe there.

While driving through North Carolina we saw some crude highway billboards like, 'I got crabs at Dicks'. Lots of redneck vibes in NC.

Make sure you hit up the Video N Gun while you're there...

Can the Whole Foods be nearby?

Bar Harbor, ME

Portland is the closest Whole Foods to Bar Harbor, hours away.

Don't think they would qualify for the hipster designation OP was looking for. I would place them in the nautical preppy wear category.

Lewes is kind of hipster - the shops there are more hipster than preppy, there's the whole craft beer thing, a trendy former motel, pretty decent food scene, coffee roaster, fresh juice bar. But no starbucks or chipotle in the town itself. I'm sure both are out on Rt 1 somewhere.

Doesn't starbucks and especially chipotle say "not hipster"?
