Only a minority of Muslims practice female circumcision, and many that practice it are not Muslim. Ethiopians, Egyptian Copts etc. |
Not true! There is a huge issue with this culture and I don't blame Europeans for wanting to keep these beliefs of sharia law and their views on women being lesser than men away! |
Donald Trump was right about this one. Many aren't coming to the west because they want to assimilate. If we continue to not enforce borders and let everyone in, you will see the same thing over here. It's only common sense. I saw it when I went to the university. I remember Arabs I knew, they would get credit cards and run them up. They would ship tons of stuff by surface then go back their country. No they didn't pay those off, lol. Others go through the process and truly want a good life and want to embrace our values which is all good. Look at what Europe did, all we need to do is the opposite.
|
Europe is not at all inclusive - I have a friend in Denmark who once told me that if he were black, he would want to live in America, as darker skinned people are not treated the same in Europe.
When in Paris in 1995 a taxi driver originally from Morocco told me the french were not kind to him at all - he was a very kind, warm person. Much of western Europe is still classes in their own society - France/England - region/accent/education still determines your status in society. |
ThisThisThis signed a devout Christian that understands that anyone can take a holy book and distort it plus OP is an idiot |
What is not true? That FGM is practiced only by a minority of Muslims, or that non-Muslims practice that too? Both things are easily ascertainable, you know. |
This thread is based on holy inaccurate assumptions. Immigration policies in europe are geared toward assimilation not integration. Meaning immigrants are expected to become "native" and are encouraged to promote their own cultures/identity, and policies of integration are not prioritizez. For example- many immigrant arrivals apply for asylum once in europe. In many countries this means being required to live in a shelter/shared housing while waiting for a decision. You cant work, get to know your community etc. Most europeans countries want immigrants to be just like them- in france for example you are always french first, second comes any other identity. In the us we refer to people as mexican-american, german-american, etc. Even if becoming an american is a big deal identity wise, we actually encorage pp to
Maintain their own culture identities. Mch more can be said here. |
Another factor to consider is that our unskilled immigrants are Hispanics who (1) are members of the largest single church (Roman Catholic) or quickly join an evangelical congregation, (2) speak a language that's been taught at every two-bit 150 student high school since the 1950s, and (3) said language is reasonably closely related to English (which is a Romance vocabulary grafted onto a Germanic base).
You have the pied-noirs, the European ethnic settlers of Algeria who had been in Algeria for 100+ years and considered themselves *French* -- the French PP would do well to consider how they weren't regarded as 100% French for years. (On forms, they were made to put '99' to indicate their place of birth -- i.e. outside France, only an outcry reversed that.) Compare and contrast to Middle Eastern immigrants who (1) are members of a wholly alien to Europe religion, (2) speak a language that is not culturally close to the various European languages, and (3) have said language in a wholly different alphabet. Our skilled immigrants are truly a mix of the world. East Asian, South Asian, African, Caribbean, European, and Middle Eastern. PP has assimilated to the French idea (Liberté, égalité, fraternité). But the notion of a nation united around an idea and not a nationality dates back less than 100 years for most of Europe. But she also mentioned the actual killers being some bizarre mashup of Opus Dei and MS-13 -- that's actually true in that many of these killers seem to have had run-ins with the law over regular street crime before finding Islam. The girl that might have brought in several people to the suicide bomber in Paris was a bit of a club regular, getting in/getting others to start fights. The other PP who said if the "France has no racism" poster started out as a Maronite/Armenian and/or is light-skinned, she is already a step ahead of the game, is more than likely right. (Likewise if her parents came with some skills). I will quibble with that PP's declaration that it's terrible French PP is teaching her kids French, though -- it's a decision the French PP can make for herself. |
It's not terrible - did I say that it is? That's her choice. And our choices say things about us. I said it clearly shows that she has shed the identity of her origins, because language is the carrier of identity. And my theory is that it happened because in the French concept of assimilation, there is likely little room for retaining. much less transmitting to your children, languages other than French. That is, France has asked her family, figuratively speaking (this is my theory), "do you want to be French, really French? Forget your language, then. Forget your religion too. Forget where you came from. You are here now. Keep the kabobs, though. " Some people accept that deal. Some can't. Compare that to an American view of assimilation, which is perfectly comfortable and even encouraging of other languages and other ethnic stories in the great American tapestry. |
This is very true. They are NOT PC. In fact, they're the farthest thing from PC. It's very refreshing b/c they're honest. PC is just a way of hiding some ugly truths. So all the bad that should be exposed and addressed stays hidden under PC language. Furthermore, European nations are small and clearly love their culture. Adding more people to an already crowded space is bad enough. Adding a very different culture to the mix is destructive. I feel very sorry for Europeans. In fact, I think my father is rolling over in his grave watching what's happening to his country. |
I feel sorry for Europeans as far as terrorism, no one should be subjected to that! As far as countries being subjected to foreigners and their unique cultures being changed, I have no sympathy. When Europeans were colonizing other countries and oppressing the people of those countries, they had no sympathy for the people they were oppressing. Many of the people invading Europe are from former colonies. We reap what we sow. |
Indigenous Europeans resent economic immigrants taking up already very limited physical and financial resources. |
Then why do you travel to other countries? to embrace a different culture Why do people study abroad? same reason but also with the goal of FULLY learning another language Yes, the US is "unique" in that it's an amalgamation of cultures. great, I say - But we're large and can absorb this constant change better than most simply because of our size. The irony on these threads is fascinating to me. We are always preaching about appreciating other cultures in the US - valuing what they bring to our country, yet we'll bash European countries for being "too nationalistic." |
With all of the whining about integration, one should also bear in mind that many of the European muslims that everyone is up in arms over were either not born in Europe or are the first generation born in Europe. If one were to compare this to the reality of immigrants who came to America via Ellis Island at the turn of the century. They didn't suddenly learn English and integrate, either. Folks who are now in their 60s and 70s who had grandparents arrive from Italy and elsewhere via Ellis Island in the late 1800s and early 1900s all have stories of their nonnas et cetera who could only speak broken English up until the day they died. Hundreds of newspapers flourished in all American cities back then, written in Polish, Slovak, Italian, Yiddish, et cetera. Integration isn't something that happens immediately - it takes at least one generation and more often two. And another American lesson to learn is that integration happens even more slowly when foreign populations are ghettoized.
Yet here we are with people standing there tapping their foot, arms crossed, scowling, demanding to know why the immigrants who just arrived in Europe just a couple of years ago haven't yet fully integrated, and worse yet, coming up with contorted prognostications about how they will never integrate. Learn some history, folks. |
OK, I'll give you the liberal values, but open borders? No guns? Inclusive? Have you actually been to Europe? ![]() |
