Wow, the pyramid thing puts him right up there with the guy who thought Guam could tip over and sink. |
Have you watched the video? Come on, nobody is going to get past that. ![]() |
Carson just rode the coattails of a lot of eminent surgeons at JH who, unlike him, weren't crazy egomaniacs who thought of themselves as God's gift to humanity and were happy to let him have the spotlight. He is a case of affirmative action gone very wrong. |
LOL. They get free preschool, free healthcare and free college for the somewhat higher taxes they pay. Meanwhile, Americans are going broke paying for all that stuff while all our tax money goes to fund our bloated military and our foreign invasions. |
People can be totally rational in one context and complete fuzzheads in another. There is no need to question Carson's medical skills just because his religious ideas seem weird.
On the substance, I disagree strongly with many of his political ideas, but his basic approach that things like healthcare should not be tied to political parties, and that we can work together even while we have disagreements, is something I completely agree with. |
There have been many natural experiments with Sanders' "socialist" policy proposals that provide evidence of their effectiveness and viability. He's not pulling this sh!t out of his azz. Carson, however, seems to turn to his backside for a few too many of his ass-ertions. |
I'm not a fan of Carson-the-politician, but I don't know what you mean by your statement that "he is a case of affirmative action gone very wrong." I don't know what you mean by that, but I suspect I disagree with you. He certainly didn't become a presidential candidate by way of affirmative action... unless you think he's been promoted to the hopefuls list by "someone, somewhere" in the GOP by virtue of being a minority? Ha. No. |
I should add, however, that I don't think using a prayer breakfast to make a political statement was compatible with this approach. |
Jesus fucking Christ, the dumb in this paragraph is outstanding. You don't know anything, because everything you attack is either the work of Republicans or not happening outside the feverish imaginations of conservatives. Can you point to any specific ways Obama has kept us more divided and full of hate? What censorship? Like as bad as it was under Bush? Because if you want to reference 1984... Which freedoms are you supposedly being stripped of by the Democrats? The Reublicans have become the party of anti-freedom - workers' rights, rights to privacy, right to access abortion, right to unionize. Anything that gives the individual any measure of power. FWIW, Bernie would lead us down a path that a great many of us would like to take. |
Carson can operate on my kids' brains, but he in no way, shape, or form can or should be president of the United States. He does not know enough about how government, economics, or foreign policy work. He doesn't know the debt ceiling from his ass from his elbow. He cannot grasp how or why it is that huge proportions of US demographics are floundering in poverty or teetering on the brink with any sense of accuracy nor informed by historical wisdom. His colloquial conversations about major policy issues right now (gun control, women and health/economics, immigration, employment) are not grounded in fact or knowledge. He is a man that inspires empathy and in many cases also admiration because of his personal story. But that is NOT SUFFICIENT in any way for running the richest, most militarily powerful, diverse, and yet also floundering (relative to its peers) countries in the world. Select him as your moral evangelist or choose him as your physician. But no, not your president. |
I will make my own choice at the polls, just as you will. That's how this works. |
Please share specifically whose coattails he rode. I worked at Hopkins in the PICU and cared for many of his patients over several years and I would be fascinated to hear you back this up. |
Evidently Carson is unaware of the fact that the pyramids are not hollow and would be a very ineffective structure for storing grain.... not to mention the logistics of taking decades to build them, or of the problematic timelines, the issues of evidence to the contrary et cetera et cetera... |
Here you go. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/media/releases/johns_hopkins_medicine_community_mourns_the_death_of_internationally_renowned_pediatric_neurologist_john_m_freeman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_M._Freeman Note specifically hemispherectomies, that Freeman revived, but that Carson says Freeman "helped work out." And now CNN has come out with a report suggesting that Carson is a compulsive liar who fabricated his story of redemption from a violent youth. The National Review has called him a "bald-faced liar" for his statements regarding his association with Mannatech. He plagiarized portions of a book in which he even admits to college plagiarism. Perhaps it's time to ask what he's truthful about? http://www.salon.com/2015/01/07/conservative_hero_ben_carson_hit_with_plagiarism_scandal/ http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/426270/what-ben-carsons-mannatech-answer-tells-us-jim-geraghty http://www.salon.com/2015/11/05/ben_carson_just_cant_quit_lying_cnn_tries_to_fact_check_his_autobiography_comes_up_empty/ |
There's a ton of affirmative action in place getting into Med school, but you still have to graduate and pass the licensing exams. AA doesn't really help you there. Despite all current evidence to the contrary, there must be a pretty good brain lurking in there. The only thing I can think is that deeply held religious beliefs can cause even smart people to believe ridiculous things. |
