Something hip enough that parents aren't mortified to go to - with good food and drink for all. Maybe a nice updated and casual pizza place or similar. There are so many nights my family would love to grab a bite out close by or meet friends for Friday night dinner with kids. Comet is good, but it is always such a mob scene and not walkable from the circle. Seems like it is so popular a little competition might be good and needed up in Chevy Chase, DC. Seems like it would be a good idea for the old Chinese restaurant location - or get rid of the Bread and Chocolate next door and renovate that to be a cool family friendly restaurant - certainly has the large indoor and outdoor space to be focal point/flagship/cornerstone of the block.

You know what would be amazing? Family Meal (the one in Fredrick, MD by Bryan Voltaggio) would make a killing.

You realize Range and Lunch Box are both at Chevy Chase Pavilion.

That does nothing to help the stretch of Connecticut Avenue that we're discussing. In fact, it probably makes it worse by drawing folks away from the immediate area we're discussing.

Seriously. People think that Cafe Deluxe would open another restaurant exactly in between the two restaurants it has already? And that Pete's needs another location a mile from the one they already have?

Cafe Deluxe used to be pretty good, but it is starting to show its mediocrity and its age as just another corporate restaurant concept. Chevy Chase DC deserves more locally owned, independent restaurants.

PP here who first suggested Cafe Deluxe. I'm not paid to promote them, but we like the Bethesda CD a lot -- good, consistent family-friendly choice. That said, I would be more than pleased with others like Blue 44. I just assume -- perhaps incorrectly -- that the rent is fairly high, so you would need the goodwill that a name like Cafe Deluxe (or Cactus Cantina, or Volt, or whatever) would bring with it in order to make a go.

Family Meal is a different restaurant- have you been? It's a kids friendly but actual good food for adults. Homey, comfort food and price point is mid teens (would probably be higher in DC with the rent). Lunch Box is not very good and Range is upscale.

In our home, we sometimes refer to Range as "Ron-jay"

(Like Stron-jay in Coming to America)

The food is good, but not sure I see the appeal of eating in an indoor mall courtyard.

I agree about Cafe Deluxe, it has gone totally downhill. I also love Connecticut Ave. in Chevy Chase DC. I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Parthenon on this entire thread. Its one of the best greek restaurants in the DC area. Its not a generic trendy place by all means, and that is why I love it. Its homey, real and authentic, and most importantly, has fantastic food! Restaurants like this are a dying breed these days.

I didn't know they had seating in the mall courtyard- I've only eaten in the restaurant, but I don't think the cache is that bad, knowing you are on the Rodeo Drive of DC with all the high end designer stores nearby.

But you're staring at H&M and Old Navy.

That was "Boomerang" not "Coming to America"

Anyone know what is going into the old empty Chinese restaurant space?

Still wondering what is going into the vacant Chinese restaurant next to Bread and Chocolate - heard a crab shack, but does anyone know for sure?

I don't know what you mean by "deserves." Judging from CC listserv, a sizable number of Chevy Chase residents think the best restaurant on the strip is Parthenon. If that's what the neighborhood likes, then there's not neighborhood demand for actual quality food.

Thank God someone made this correction.
