Bethune opening second campus

I have also not heard anything from them, and I doubt there hasn't been movement.

My friend got in, and no one returned her calls. The deadline passed, so she just assumed that they gave away her spot. I think their "lottery" is just a cover for what they really do - give the seats to whoever asks.

Including kids that don't meet their Sept 30th deadline. I now know of at least 3.

I don't know anyone who received a call off the waitlist, and I know for sure they've had enough people pull out to have cleared it. They're shady as hell. I won't speak for anyone else, but as a Bethune neighbor I certainly wouldn't mind if they moved elsewhere and got replaced by another charter.

+1. Very similar to my own experience with them. I had to call and call after receiving only one lottery number despite applying for two kids (no one returns calls). When I finally got through to someone, they gave me the second number over the phone. We eventually got one kid in; second was waitlisted, but have never heard anything at all re: wait listed child. They did, however, put me on their fundraising email list, so I regularly get emails related to that. Who knows what they did with our K spot--no letters here! We gave up and are going elsewhere.

The stories about Bethune and the lack of clear procedures for its wait list are troubling. Makes perfect sense that many are throwing up their hands and moving on elsewhere.

But on behalf of all taxpayers, if nothing else, please call or email OSSE and the DC PCSB and tell them what happened. Nothing will change until enough complaints are registered and that requires people with first hand experience.

I did get off the wait list, it happened via snail mail. For better or worse we are enrolled, fully acknowledging that their organization and administration is terrible. Here's to hoping their instruction is better (fwiw, I've heard good things about the teachers).

They are not moving elsewhere. They are getting a SECOND campus.

Wait and see what happens in 2016.

Spill the bean PP, who do you think has been "promised" the building?? No one knows this is you.

I wish I could say I had faith in the PCSB, but I don't. Look at how they looked the other way with the whole CAPCS financial shadiness - they did nothing for YEARS until the DC Attorney General filed charges. Those responsible for oversight do not do their jobs and the kids become truly innocent victims. It really saddens me.

Guess we'll have to wait and see 10:23.

How can we put pressure on the PCSB for this school? Can we file complaints some way? If most of the attendees are MD residents you won't get a lot of internal complaints.

Write your (non-dc) congressmen / senators.

They are accountable to no one.

Seriously? Not even the mayor has oversight?

Just curious: why all the hate on this school? So they had 6 students three years ago from MD. I'm not defending that by any means, but I just don't get why there are folks so worked up about it still?

Did you have your child enrolled there and it was awful? Do you live across the street and they're awful neighbors?

People get bored over the summer, are looking for punching bags, and felt bad about rumor-mongering SELA once actual parents started showing up in the thread.
