Bethune opening second campus

What is this "promised" talk? Bethune is not closing. It is opening a second campus. Period.

I don't blame the MD residents for taking advantage as much as I blame the administration, who can't manage to work their list, opts out of the common lottery, and basically welcomes the MDers with open arms. If they are allowed to stay open, let alone open a second campus, it does seem ridiculous. DC dollars that are meant to go toward education are indeed being shifted to free daycare and MD students under this scenario.

Anyone have any proof other than seeing MD tags during drop offs that says this school enrolls MD residents?

I've seen MD tags at Janney and Deal. Are these families questioned?

No, not questioned. Interrogated.

Please stop the rumormongering that the Bethune campus on 14/Jackson is going to another school. Bethune is absolutely staying there. Sorry to disappoint.

That's good news!

We can revisit this thread later this year.

We had an under 10 waitlist number and haven't heard a thing from the school. Shady.

You want proof? http://www.hunewsservice.com/news/view.php/53575/Residency-Fraud-A-Problem-in-DC-Public-S

And yet, they're still allowed to do their own lottery and open another campus? WTF?

That data is from the 12-13 school year. Do you have anything recent?

Oh, you're one of those. So, the current Principal said "I wasn't aware of the problem" As in, she didn't REALIZE this was even happening. They have refused to enter the common lottery, you can sit out front and count at least 1 MD plate for every DC at drop off and, I'm just to assume everything is now on the up-and-up huh? You're right, I'm not to suspect that a single MD resident goes there because I can't give you the data from last month. Why don't you ask 5 of the PPs with WL numbers under 10 who never got a call for their "recent" experiences.

With the opening of a "new campus" we should have gotten some word about the WL. Instead we get some random letter about the opening and that we "can enroll there or stay at the current campus". Um we aren't even enrolled.

I actually got a waitlist letter a while back with my waitlist number crossed out in pencil and a second number written next to it.

I have also not heard anything from them, and I doubt there hasn't been movement.

My friend got in, and no one returned her calls. The deadline passed, so she just assumed that they gave away her spot. I think their "lottery" is just a cover for what they really do - give the seats to whoever asks.

How on earth did they get permission for a second site? How are schools like this and sela receiving our tax dollars?

Including kids that don't meet their Sept 30th deadline. I now know of at least 3.
