Many TJ kids choose to attend UVA over other higher ranked schools due to in-state tuition and merit based aid/scholarships. |
People get an idea of how base schools compare in terms of college admissions/matriculation. |
But, is it because they went to TJ? After all, shouldn't we be comparing them with the very top of the base schools? After all, they should be comparable to the top of the base schools. The TJ kids are not supposed to be average. |
|
I doubt TJ helps boost someone's chances at college admissions. That student would be a star at any school.
Which is why the obsession over TJ for simply getting into a top college isn't rational. Trying to get in for the experience and to be with other smart kids is legitimate though, I my opinion. |
wait - but I thought there was a previous poster that said their state funding is decreasing. How can they off more merit aid if that's the case? |
UVa is usually ranked higher than Michigan. |
PP asked which school is "better" not ranked "higher". Unless you are a rank crazed idiot, they are two different things. |
| Yes, your entirely subjective view should carry more weight. Well-argued. |
Michigan is ranked higher than UVA. |
Neither PP--but the selection of the criteria on which to rank the schools is subjective. Example: Is a school better because it is more selective on the students admitted? Or, is it better because more go to graduate school? Is it better because it has more Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer winners, etc? Is a school better if it has more elected officials as alumni? Because it has more endowments? |

USNWR lists UVa and UC Berkeley as tie for second among public schools with Michigan listed as number 4.
|
Sorry, UCLA tied for second with UVa. Berkeley is first. |
| So, you base your opinion on USNWR? |
Nope. |
|
It sure would suck to be in the bottom half of the TJ class...
