84 are "attending" UVA. The PP was asking for number of acceptances. Typically the number is about 170 to 190.

I don't think that information is public yet. Blackboard/Family Connection/Naviance has not updated for the 2015 graduating class. Plus, it is down for a week, so even if it had updated, you couldn't look it up.

Why is this a big surprise? A magnet school plus in-state Virginia residents. Who do you think these two schools (and UVA) are going to accept? Kids from Alaska?

I think it's some what different in that I would be surprised if Michigan accepted 180 applicants from one magnet school in Michigan or UC Berkeley accepted or UCLA accepted 100 to 120 (given there are 2 to 3 top UCs) applicants from 1 California high school.

^^Prepare to be surprised. Along with the parents of TJ kids who were rejected from UVA.

Michigan doesn't have a magnet program like TJ anywhere in the state, and they are taking an increasing number of OOS students in order to pad falling funding from the state government.

Typically 70 to 80% of TJ kids get accepted but only about half of them enroll.

Virginia wants to keep its smart kids in Virginia to work in the tech corridor.

Most Public Universities are doing the same thing. UVA has about 25-30% OOS more than UCs.
