agree but it's not love. She doesn't love anybody; she's some sort of sociopath. Those three you mention she protects because she sees them as useful to her, and they don't cross her. She'd toss any of them out in a heartbeat if they went against whatever she wanted at the moment.

The sad fact for Mary, though, is that wherever she goes, she's with herself.

I have only read half of page 1 of this thread. But....
ENOUGH ABOUT THE DOG ALREADY!

Seriously!!!!!!

Does the same person, every week say the dog is too old on page one and then never ever read the countless replies that this is in fact the second dog, the first one was named Pharoh- and then, even though someone has pointed this out, someone has to do all the math and say how many years have lapsed since the first episode and that the dog could not live that long ..., DUH! Someone just stated, this is not the same dog...

Can you people read??????

I have no dog in this fight, the dog is almost a nothing to the central plots, why do you people care sooooo much?

Way to channel your inner Mary. Now we all know how Edith feels.

A PP asked who killed Greene if neither Mr. nor Mrs. Bates did. Here's my theory--it was Baxter. We never did learn (nor has she told anyone at DA) who the creep was who coerced her into stealing her employer's jewels. AND, someone overheard Greene, just before he was killed, say something like "what are YOU doing here?" Since Baxter was sentenced to 5 years but only served 3...maybe Greene was the guy who coerced Baxter to steal the jewels, and then was floored to find out she was out of jail early???

Ah, yes, PP, I think you're right; you've solved it. Darn. Now I won't be surprised! lol

And I don't think PP upthread was being a butch (lol). It does seem that in almost every weekly thread, someone comments on Isis's age, then someone patiently explains about Pharaoh, then someone down thread comments on Isis's age…

That being said, Isis had better have puppies or I'll be really pissed off!

Bates is so annoying. Poor Anna. So, who did kill Green? Isn't it strange that is was on the same day that Bates had a ticket to London?

Please don't kill off Isis!

I agree. I can't fucking stand Bates. I want him knocked off so that Anna can be free to forge a modern life.

I never noticed Isis until these threads started. I was too bust staring at the jewels and clothes. Never ever noticed the dog.

I see similar behavior in spoiled first-borns that I have met. They are the center of the universe. (I'm thinking about some Asian first-borns. I'm Asian.)

Strangely, I don't mind Bates...although he's the type of guy I thought I would mind. I can't stand the fact that Anna, regardless of their social and occupational status, still doesn't feel free to tell Bates that those contraceptives were Mary's. I mean, for crying out loud, they were discussing Bates possibly being a murderer but they can't talk about milady's reproductive matters?

Edith annoys the shit out of me. Yes, I want her to forge a new life and move on but she's such a whiny bitch that it's hard to root for her. I bet Mr. Drewe is extremely unhappy he ever came across her. Didn't they kiss once in a prior season?

No effing way on the Mary and Tom duo. Mary would ruin him. He needs to get out of Downton and go save Ireland. Mary and Charles Blake deserve each other. They are both manipulative little buggers. I felt sad when Mrs. Crowley mentioned how wonderful Mary was when she was approaching on her horse. Matthew should be there.

I am one of the few who is rooting for Mrs. Crowley to marry Lord What's-His-Face. I want to see the DC and Dr. G. deal with this new twist.

And...like a PP, I'm not a fan of the DC and the Russian dude. Not at all.

OH, and finally, I think a PP is right about Baxter. The question is: does Barrow also know?

Mary isn't a sociopath -- don't you remember how self-negating she was about the whole Matthew thing? She's just a mean big sister -- there are plenty of those around.

I like Bates, but I remember him as Brendan the bar keeper from the Irish show on PBS. You have to look for the twinkle in his eye behind the stoicism. Anna sort of drives me nuts because she never does the reasonable thing, like just tell him about the Mary thing.

You can say no wrong about Isis the dog. I also hope for puppies. Oooh -- I just had the awful thought that Isis will also die in childbirth. That lets the show get rid of the awkward name, while mollifying all the dog fans with adorable little puppies.

And I think Edith will be just a fine mom once she gets her bearings. The poor thing has spent her whole life looking for someone to love. Plus, as someone pointed out, she really is quite resourceful, what with the driving and the writing and all.
