You know, Mary is such a total B. I agree that Tony's ex-fiancee reminds us all of Miss Bunting, but truth be told, she was minding her own business, getting married to Tony, when Mary steals him, sleeps with him, casts him off…and now interferes with the ex getting back together with Tony by doing everything to make Tony pant after her. And really, she's HORRIBLE to Edith. As the WP says, "there's a special wing in hell for Mary." Ok I think---someone chime in---when Isobel said about Lord Merton, "this is my last chance for a grand adventure" that the Dowager's face said that she was processing that comment for her and her Russian prince. I think. Because that actress is so good, I think she may have successfully conveyed that. (or I'm reading too much into it--lmk!) Q---someone may have already asked--if Isobel marries Lord Merton, does she equally rank or outrank the Dowager? If she's going to outrank, maybe the Dowager had better marry that Russian prince-now-pauper after all! |

So how is the farmer's family going to explain the missing orphaned child to everyone else? Oh Lady Edith took her on a trip to London? You don't think that would raise some eyebrows and cause some heads to nod knowingly?
How would dietary restrictions work, if the Jewish family came to dine at Downton? Would one family's butler call the other and say no roasted pig for dinner. What about kosher? Do you think Mary wears contacts to give her that weak eye look? She has the eyeballs of a 90-year old woman. |
Mary=Cora |

think the Isis thing also underscored the family's treatment of Edith.
No one cares about her feelings, really, and everyone is paying attention to the dog instead. |
I agree. Cora asked her husband if she should go see Edith when he come in to tell her the news about whathisname. What mother wouldn't go to her daughter's side? Maybe the farmer's wife will try to blackmail Edith about Marigold, she would deserve that. |
I agree. And that scene where Edith and Cora are talking at the top of the stairs about how sad Edith is, and Cora never reaches out and gives her a hug? Was hugging just not done in the 1920s? I love that the older ladies are being given more screen time and more independent lives. I hope the dowager gets with the russian aristocrat -- and then the dinners with him and the jewish family will be quite exciting -- no Bunting necessary. |

I hate edith. Stealing back that kid now from TWO families. She is a disaster. I can't imagien having to act that depressed week after week on this show. She should ask Julian Fellows to kill her off too.
And did Isobel actually say she was going to say to Merton. Also, I thought it weird that Atticus' parents were at the race and the mom seemed awfully happy to get in with the Granthams and come to dinner. Any chance this is all just social climbing for them and atticus really isn't into Rose. And mary is a royal bitch. |
| While I know what Edith did was awful and I doubt it was the right choice, I have to say that for pure entertainment's sake (this is a television show, afterall, and not real life) i loved for mean Mrs. Drewe to get hers. Of course, Edith is a pretty bad person (shafted the first adoptive family, forced Mr. Drewe to keep her secret to the detriment of his marriage and family, etc.) but after Mrs. Drewe's awful behavior I wasn't terribly bummed for her. |
Mrs. Drewe's awful behavior?? She was taking care of a child for years(?) that I think she suspected was her husband's love child with a Lady of the Manor. Mrs. D had to work (real work like baking bread & heating water for baths) probably every waking hour to take care of her family and Edith just wallows around sticking her nose in. ugh. |

The fact that a Jewish family has given their child the name "Atticus" indicates a willingness to drop their culture and perhaps do a little social climbing. They were at the races for their money, and I think they were delighted when asked to dine at Downton (God I loved writing "dine at Downton").
But I think Atticus does find Rose attractive -- how could he not if he is only looking at her superficially. The fact that she is helping the Russians is a little more gritty than anything Mary or Edith ever did. It is more like Tom's precious Sybil (take that, Bunting!) who worked in the hospital during WWI. Sorry -- I have gotten a little wrapped in this story. I will leave quietly. |

Why was Daisy so mean to Mosley when he 1) tried to engage her in what she was studying and then 2) when he tried to offer her a book to borrow? I don't get it at all. I know they smoothed it over with that third scene where he basically said, "it's too late for me but I'd like to do what I can to help you get out of here."
I don't thinking adding in another snippy character in the form of the DC's new maid (Danker?) is worthwhile at all. I just disliked her from the moment she came onto the scene. How was she not fired yet? Bizarre. |
| Daisy was empowered by Bunting to be a bitch. |
She gave the ticket to Mary, who burned it last season, remember? |
Ugh, that's right, thank you. I had a vague memory of it being destroyed, but couldn't remember how or by whom. |
| Edith is a pathetic bitch and Mary is an ice princess bitch. |
