What is your job (or what industry?)

I started exploring Wicca when I was a teenager and started to more actively practice when I was in college.

I work for a small social justice nonprofit.

Great thread. Silly question, what's involved in the ritual of casting a spell? Is it the equivalent of a prayer?

Not a silly question at all!

The end outcome is the equivalent to a prayer in the sense that you are performing the action in hopes of A Higher Power hearing and changing the situation.

So, let's pretend that you and I both have a friend who is sick and we want to do what we can. You go to your church, sit in a pew, bow your head and say something along the lines of "Oh heavenly Father, please be with my friend in her time of need. Please ease her suffering and restore her health. In your son's name, Amen."

I'll start my ritual around my altar, light a white candle, hold a specific stone, burn different herbs and perform different actions such as symbolically sweeping away negative energy. I'll say something like "Healing flows into this water, flowing from Her sacred well. I call forth light, in the dark of night, to heal the blight, with strength and with might. As it is, so mote it be."

Have you ever thought that no one will marry you because younareva Wiccan?

No. If somebody doesn't want to marry me because I'm Wiccan, then there is no possible way that I would ever want to marry them to begin with.

And if there truly is nobody out there for me, I'm fine with that. I will have more time to devote to my hobbies, my pets, my job, my friends, and my family.

That is incredibly unfortunate and I'm so sorry. We scare people and I really wish there was a way to educate the world on the fact that we're good people who should not be feared.

Have you attended a Wiccan wedding? Who presides over one?

I had a chance to attend a Wiccan wedding this summer and was really looking forward to it, but timing won't work out.

No I did not, and I'm going to ignore the rest of your question.

I have! It was at midnight on the night of a full moon and it was beautiful. The couple are witches in the same coven, and their High Priestess (the highest ranking witch in a coven) presided.

Do you find that more people are raised Wiccan and stay that way or come to it in adulthood?

I'm Wiccan because it is the religion that most closely matches my spiritual beliefs. There is no real set creed for earth-based religions; instead, each practicer is allowed to explore their own spirituality.

In short, Wicca is an earth-based religion. It's under the Pagan religious umbrella.

The basics of Wicca are that we believe in the divinity of nature and revere the polarity of the cosmos. As such, we generally believe in a Goddess along with a God. We generally practice magick in all of its forms. We absolutely believe in doing no harm.

You believe in the polarity of the cosmos? what does that mean exactly?

Have I been spelling magick wrong all these years?

Ok, this is coming from an agnostic and I truly don't mean to be offensive, but I would like to know how intellectually you have come to the conclusion that there is a god and goddess. Admittedly it is a pretty idea and I understand the appeal of the belief, but I just don't understand how wanting to be part of an earth based religion leads one to say they actually BELIEVE in something as concrete and sort of out there as multiple deities.
