Not a silly question at all!

The end outcome is the equivalent to a prayer in the sense that you are performing the action in hopes of A Higher Power hearing and changing the situation.

So, let's pretend that you and I both have a friend who is sick and we want to do what we can. You go to your church, sit in a pew, bow your head and say something along the lines of "Oh heavenly Father, please be with my friend in her time of need. Please ease her suffering and restore her health. In your son's name, Amen."

I'll start my ritual around my altar, light a white candle, hold a specific stone, burn different herbs and perform different actions such as symbolically sweeping away negative energy. I'll say something like "Healing flows into this water, flowing from Her sacred well. I call forth light, in the dark of night, to heal the blight, with strength and with might. As it is, so mote it be."[/quote]
