Tell me again, why were they rioting? Oh yeah that's right. I must have completely misunderstood everything I've read and heard on the news? I thought the black community was angry how they're being treated by the police. That's what I heard Jesse Jackson, official voice of the black community, just say on the TV. I guess he's wrong too. Please tell me was this is about again? |

The point of looting is to show you have power over something when you otherwise feel you do not have power.
It's like kicking the dog when you get home from work after your boss yells at you. Transference. |

It's not that hard to understand.. really?
They're angry, frustrated, pissed right off. So.. they destroy buildings? Steal from people who had absolutely nothing to do with this? How is that easy to understand? |
Fine. But saying, "well the looters feel frustrated" only works in the short-term. What about the future of this neighborhood. People still live there, work there. On a small-business level, who will want to invest in this place. What stable families will want to stay. The violent individuals are doing long-term damage. |

10:17 with more. People in DC and anywhere else who happen to be AA should not be embarrassed by these rioters burning and looting and creating mayhem. You are individuals and people choose to make their own decisions.
My AA friends or their sons would not do this. Hopefully the businesses had business interruption insurance as well as the property coverage with adequate funds to cover deductibles. |
Yes but it's akin to rebuilding on a flood plain. At some point you cut your losses and relocate. Insurance companies will not continually renew a policy on a questionable location. |
You sound like someone who doesn't have much of a temper. I am a 45 year old mother of 2, white, with a law degree. Sometimes I could burn the whole world down and toast marshmallows over the ashes. It just takes a few people with a temper like mine to get a party like that started. (And no, I don't burn buildings down. I've had a long time to learn to control my temper.) |
Ferguson isn't a questionable location, especially. It's a working class/lower middle class neighborhood. Centene is going to build a big office building there. |
|
It's only rioting when black people do it.
Whites acted up in Keene NH, no one cared. |
And CVS. But that's another issue. |
I know. I was referring to the larger thread topic of looting, not limited to the last 24 hours. |
Oh I can have one hell of a temper. Nobody will come near me when I'm pissed off. I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. I've been known to break my own stuff. I can yell and scream and swear with the best of them. I still know not to do this crap. The fact that you seem to almost justify this is a little scary. |
THIS!!!!! Well said. |

A Dream Deferred
What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode? --Langston Hughes |
